The Allman Brothers Band will continue a long-standing tradition with a 13-show residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre in March. Tickets for shows March 9-11, 13-14, 16-18, 20-21 and 23-25 will go on sale Friday (Jan. 6) via Ticketmaster and range in price from $49.99 to $89.99. At deadline, the group has not announced any further 2006 touring plans.

In 2005, the ABB grossed nearly $2 million from 10 “March Madness” shows (nine sold out) at the Beacon. The veteran act played 65 shows last year, including Tennessee’s fourth annual Bonnaroo festival.

Thirty-seven of those shows are available on CD via the group’s official Web site.

Nearly a year ago, keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Allman told Billboard.com that he and his bandmates — Butch Trucks (drums and tympani), Jaimoe (drums), Warren Haynes (vocals, lead and slide guitar), Derek Trucks (slide and lead guitar), Oteil Burbridge (bass) and Marc Quinones (congas and percussion) — would begin work on a new studio album following the 2005 Beacon run.

No news has surfaced regarding completion of a new set or when it may see release, but that should not be a surprise to fans. The ABB’s last studio disc, 2003’s “Hittin’ the Note” (Peach/Sanctuary), came nine years after its predecessor. It included the track “Instrumental Illness,” which earned the group a best rock instrumental performance Grammy nomination.
