The Allman Brothers Band

Newsletter- Gregory-O-Gram 2009 1026

Hey there sweet family,

After closing out the current and final leg of the Allman Brothers Band’s year-long 40th Anniversary celebratory U.S. tour, Gregg Allman will head back out on the road for an array of solo dates this winter. The iconic singer, songwriter, keyboardist and guitarist begins his traditional fall tour November 11 in Salamanca, NY, followed by a select run of shows that will include a New Year’s Eve show in Rhode Island.

Joining Gregory on the tour will be Bruce Katz (keyboard) (nice to see you at the Sarasota Blues Fest, Bruce!), Jerry Jemmott (bass), Steve Potts (drums), Scott Sharrard (guitar), Jay Collins (sax) and Floyd Miles(percussion) (Shout out to Floyd and Claudia and all their babies and grandbabies that we saw in Sarasota too!). “The Brothers had a great run this summer. I’m gonna stretch these solo shows out a bit, try some new material and just do what I do,” says Gregg.

Gregory continues to receive rave reviews from the Brothers’ recent live shows, which also featured Widespread Panic. Bill Clifford from the Hartford Courant noted from the 8/30 Hartford, CT show, “At 62, Gregg Allman still has one of the most soulful voices in rock.” Of the 8/29 Boston, MA show, Boston Music Spotlight writer Ethan Swann said, “Any bluesman’s voice benefits from the ravages of age, and Gregg’s is no exception. ‘Midnight Rider’ and ‘Good Morning Little School Girl’ showcased his vocal stylings and sounded as good as they ever have.”

In other news, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee will join country star Tim McGraw for a performance on The Jay Leno Show on Tuesday, October 27. The two will perform McGraw’s new single “Southern Voice” (from his new album with the same title) in which he name-checks the Allman Brothers Band in the lyrics.
