In honor of long time confidant of The Allman Brothers Band and Gregg Allman’s closest friend, Chank Middleton, Mercer Music at Capricorn has established the Hewell “Chank” Middleton Vocal Isolation Room in Studo B. In fitting coincidence, the vocal room sits right above what was Braswell’s Barber Shop where Chank worked shining shoes in 1969. It was Braswell’s where Chank met the members of The Allman Brothers Band who were recording at the old Capricorn Studios next door. Chank’s wife, Carrolle, recounted that Braswell’s was owned by a local teacher in Macon, Mrs Jenkins and managed by Mr Richard King. Mr Richard King was Carrolle’s father.
A room where musicians come to sing is an excellent tribute to a man who dedicated his life to musicians and was loved by them all. If you would like to donate to the Memorial Fund supporting The Hewell “Chank” Middleton Vocal Isolation Room at Capricorn Sound Studios go HERE: go.mercer.edu/chank
