Rowland, I agree that Lana's post was fairly soft handed. But sometimes the delivery is less important than the message. Unfortunately, that message was loud and clear and I have to say I am completely bewildered by that message! If discussion of that one particular musician that played guitar in the ABB for over 30 years is out of line on this GB, then I say so is any discussion of any of the history of the ABB! And if that follows, then any discussion that varies from the current affairs of the ABB or any future affairs of the ABB should be the only discussion allowed here. Right? And if all of this follows, then should not the ABB discontinue the playing of any of the songs that were written by that particular musician that played in the ABB for over 30 years (not to mention carried the band for many of those years)? I know that some of this is out of your control, but if that is the way the band wants it then their view of reality is severely twisted!

Hey there sweet family, Last week folks were wondering if Gregg had ever auditioned for Poco. I asked him, and GA did audition for Poco many years ago. He auditioned for singing/playing guitar though, not bass. Take care and know that you are loved, Lana

Personally, I say it's a new day, we can look at it as that and try to make it a good one. Y'all have great one, at least a BEARable one. I'm still mopin about Waylon.... played 2 hours of him last night... He didn't write it, but listening to "America" has new meaning with the world the way it is. And Waymores blues, that him baby....

Never let it be said that Allman Brothers Band fans lack passion! Folks, we're just trying to be sensitive to the feelings of all the musicians here and it's obviously a tightrope to walk. I personally appreciate the extent to which y'all can do the same. If you re-read it, I think you'll find that Lana's note was written with a pretty soft touch. There are obviously some raw nerves still but it's not our intention to rub them. Sorry for those times we accidentally do. To the extent that we can all remember what brought us together in the first place, we can have fun together and go with the flow. Thanks! Rowland

I do not listen to radio. i have not since about 1973-74. i started out with Clyde Clifford on Beaker Street. KAAy Little Rock, Ark. AM. Mobile, Alabama had WABB in early 70;s that was pretty good. Pensacola, Fl had a good one in early 80's. I listen some to TV rock and blues and Jazz channels. But the rock plays too much Journey, Genesis, etc. Blues is good most of the time. I do not like commercials. It does put me out of the loop somewhat.

Turns out one of my old vintage Pontiac acquantences worked with Gregg / Dickey and the rest in the early 80's. He was asking me if I knew what Frankie Toler is up to these days. I told him I would ask. So... ????????????

FYI: This month's "Blender" magazine features an article "100 Greatest American albums of All-time". ABB is omitted ... apparently couldn't measure up to Kid Rock, Nirvana, etc. However, the inside back cover of this issue requests submissions of votes for best "missing" album, and offers "Fillmore East" as a potential oversight on their part. Fans can vote @ www.blender.com to correct this injustice. A successful campaign might expose new people to some of the greatest music ever recorded anywhere... otherwise, their loss. Thx!

I'm also wondering how talking about Duane and Dickey is "off topic". I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere because this is really getting weird! Is it the Dickey part or the fact that it was posted by Tom Seeks?I can't think of anything more "on topic" than the subject of the relationship between the two guitar players who wove the fabric of this dream. I don't think the issue is which GB to post on! I think it might have more to do with who is posting it. Sorry to "harsh anyone's mellow' but this has been bugging me all night.

ol' waylon rode out of town eh? i'll miss that phase-shifted telecaster. "honky-tonk heroes" a classic, waylon and ralph moon on steel were real sympatico. don't forget the "trades" board on ABB forum, some kind soul has a freebie posted. would be cool to fire up the trading.

On the multiple vs. single guestbooks, I'll weigh in since everybody asked me. Contrary to what is the seemingly prevailing opinions, I kinda like having the multiple guest books. The one on the old site was indeed fun, but it was also a bit intimidating to the newbies. I lurked over there for 5 years never once posting there, but I've posted on the various HTW GBs a few times already. The old one had a lot of multiple threads, some of which were interesting and some less so. Like Great Skaught said, you could always scroll pass the ones that were uninteresting to you...but having the multiple threads also could be daunting to even bother getting involved with. The new format spreads things out a bit, makes it more comfortable for some to contribute. There are always pros and cons to change, but I think if we give this format some time (which I don't think we've quite done yet), things will gel and everyone will be happy. There is obviously going to be overlap too. I mean, where do I talk about Oteil's monstrous bass solo on Kick 'n Bach? At Oteil's GB or at FFR's? Guitar talk about the 70s will also obviously fit well in Dickey's and the ABB's GB. That's where Users' discretion comes in. But some things don't really fit under the moniker of "ABB," such as sports talk or Great Southern...so we now have places for that. As an example, while I love Dickey's playing, I'm not all that into his stuff outside the ABB. I really got into the ABB when you guys stole Oteil away from my band (er, I mean when Oteil decided to leave ARU). If 10 or 15 ARU freaks were over here talking about ARU ad nauseum, it'd probably drive some of you nuts. So now I can go over to O's GB and ramble endlessly about ARU and all things Zambi, while those into Great Southern can do the equivalent at Dickey's site. We all win here. And when comments have overlapping content, I think it's great seeing it posted in multiple (yet applicable) GBs. As Great Skaught noted, you can just scroll past it if you've read it already. Now here's some contructive criticism too that might make things easier -- not as much content-wise, but for those of us that get lost between the ABB and HTW sites. (1) The ABB and HTW sites' color schemes are too similar. I've noted Lana's and Rowland's posts about the differences, but they're not as great as the difference between Dickey's, FFR's, and Oteil's...those three are DRASTICALLY different. There's no mistaking when you're on Dickey's site, or FFR's. One more drastcally different color scheme would be a nice touch. (2) Also, to reduce one more click (and time-consuming page load for us dial-up types), I'd like to see the 4 sites' links at the top of the HTW site to be on all the sites. I know, we could bookmark, but if the idea behind the portal concept is to make things easier, that would be one more easy way. And I realize (like everyone else does) that there is some bad blood between the ABB and Dickey (and I guess logically with Butch's FFR too), but geez....they shared 30 years together. If they'd get upset about a link on their web-site to another site where the family naturally extends to, then that borders on just being petty. This isn't the Van Halen/David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar portal is it? (3) Finally, with the Forums, why not link a couple to the same page. I guess this is just limited to Butch's, Oteil's, and Dickey's personal section of the forums -- but why not make the Oteil's "Oteil" forum and the ABB "Oteil" forum go to the same page? Obviously the color scheme would change if you clicked on the ABB forum section for Butch and you all of a sudden went to a black background to post to Butch, but that would add to the overall continuity of the portal idea....connecting the individual sites. I for one am diggin' the new home overall, and think with more time (and tinkering by Lana and Rowland) it'll be even more stellar than it already is. Kudos to you two for all you've done thus far. Just one more question: when are we gonna get some ARU on the HTW radio? Ha! Peace and Zambi to all, Drew

I'm sorry to hear of Waylon's passing. Saw him in 1977 with his beautiful wife Jessi. Waylon was my #1 hero in the late 70's, when I had given up on rock and roll mostly. My favorite old Waylon song, before he was an outlaw with a beard, was Cedartown Georgia. Waylon was a mans man and the true spirit of freedom. Sorry this is a day of negativity on here and Dickeys site. I don't even comprehend it, but wonder if the waters are deeper than they first look. Lana, Rowland, I know my opinion is worth exactly nothing (not to you just in general), but here it is: I don't think the different sites is the problem. It is the GB and Forum on the "Umbrella" site. Personally I'd ditch them and force people to direct to the individual sites. Who has big input on a generic "Hittin' the Web" topic anyway? It's always about something more specific (usually). You could have a little forum there if needed for user type info questions, but why need more than that? And the umbrella site adds to the lack of individual site feel. Nobody looks at URL's. It makes it seem like one big site with multiple paths and GB's within, URL's or not. You and Rowland are looking from a webmaster / administrator viewpoint, while everyone else has a User viewpoint. And also you good folk are looking at it from a Portal viewpoint, which indeed is the latest web thing. Communities (towns and cities) have portal sites. It gives the power of numbers to individual sites that they would not have otherwise. The other thing is we are dealing with a fractured family that used to be one, and to a lot of people, wether they play music togethor or not, they are still our big family. We refuse to put up the barriers that exist between the musicians themselves. They may not get along any more, but we don't have to make it ugly in our minds too, and things are seperate enough in reality, without us adding chasms in our thoughts.
