Well I haven't been around the last 4-5 days. After the news about my mom I needed to get out and into the backcountry to clear my head and find some peace. I went up to Yosemite on Sat. and did a 4 day cross-country ski and snowshoe hike up to a mountain top (Dreams) just south of the Yosemite valley. 8 Feet of snow and 60 degree days. The nights were perfect with the full moon coming on and no wind. Yesterday I summited a 9000 ft mountain and watched the sunrise up and over the valley. I was raised by my parents to respect and view nature in wonder. I got that and more. Thanks to all of you for your kind words and thoughts. Later today the tests will come back about my mom.

Mornin' y'all. I am going to give up my suite at the Beacon for the first weekend....just coming in for Friday's show and probably wont stay in the city. Dont know if its sold out or anything, but if anyone wants it, drop me a line and we can work something out. PS Marley, I LOVE Alice in Chains 🙂

Goliath, unfortunately, may have a point there. I've been annoyed by Godsmack since day one since they're an Alice in Chains ripoff... of course, that probably means zero to anyone else here. But suffice it to say I'd rather see anyone else in the category win. It'll be announced around dinner time, EST, right? Peace. --Marley

Never heard any Godsmack, but I bet they will win the grammy because the opposition consists of really good musicians....EAPFP

Yeah, I don't see too many Godsmack-heads out there. 😉 Best of luck to the guys, though I doubt any of them are attending or watching. I think we should get started now on the Deep End for Best Album Campaign...I want to see both albums nominated in a lot of categories next year! Peace. --Marley

Godsmack Feeling Good About Grammy Chances (2/26/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Among the nominees at Wednesday's (February 27) Grammy Awards is Boston-based hard rockers Godsmack, whose "Vampires"--a track from their latest album, Awake--is nominated for best rock instrumental. The band is up against Jeff Beck ("Dirty Mind"), the Allman Brothers Band ("High Falls"), Joe Satriani ("Always With Me, Always With You"), and Steve Vai ("Whispering A Prayer"). Nevertheless, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna is optimistic about Godsmack's chances for walking away with a Grammy. "It's actually something I feel we have a shot at getting. We're up against good people--Jeff Beck, and the Allman Brothers, and Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani. But out of all those bands, we're probably the most current rock band," Erna noted. "So, I think it's in a way kind of cool. Maybe if we were up for best new single or something, we could've been up against Destiny's Child or Janet Jackson or whatever and not even had a shot at it." Even if the band doesn't win a Grammy, Erna told LAUNCH he's happy the band's hard work paid off. "I'm glad someone has recognized the band at least, because the band has definitely worked hard over the last so many years, and we've toured relentlessly. We just, actually, finished up three years of straight touring. For whatever it's worth, it doesn't matter, win or lose, at this point. It's just to be recognized is just a big accomplishment for this band," he said. Godsmack is working on material for its next album. The group also has a new song, "I Stand Alone," on the soundtrack to the upcoming film The Scorpion King, which arrives in stores March 26.

When is the grammy for the rock instrumental handed out? I know that it isn't a televised catagory, but is it one of those that is handed out at a pre ceremony (the night before)? I can't stand music awards, but I am still just a little curious to see if our boy's walked away with another paperweight.

Tom S called last night to say that apparently his computer has crashed. He is most concerned about the CD burns/trades he has going on. Bad enough that his burner was toast, now he doesn't have access to the emails and info on the trades that he was trying to complete. If you are one of the folks who has an ongoing deal with him, please PM me here with your phone number or other info and I will pass it on to him. ChrisR...Tom said he is very glad to see you had successful surgery and are on the road to full recovery. Ditto from me! Now, who's up for Oteil and the Peacemakers in Raleigh tomorrow night? See y'all there Peace, Betty

Evening, I've run into a bit of a conflict on show dates and was hoping for some assistance. I've had a show, 8-30-94, for about 6 months now. See the setlist and show notes below. Some things that standout about it are Dickey's line "Welcome to the Health and Happiness show" between D1T2 & D1T3 and Mike Farris' belting vocals on Southbound. Also, prior to BWIAB, Dickey says they had to condense it down to 3.5 minutes for the Letterman show the night before. All fine so far, great show. Recently, on trade I received 8/24/94 Classic Amphitheater, Richmond, VA. Slap it in and, low and behold, same 'health and happiness' line, same Mike Farris, and same Letterman reference. So which one is correct? Problem is that, according to the HTW Live Show DB, same exact setlist for the 2 shows. Duane Betts plays on Same Thing on both dates, although only the 8/24 show has Mike Farris. OK, almost there. Not quite. Search out some Letterman guest archives (http://www.tvbarn.com/lsn-archive/lsn-082394.text) and it shows the Brothers guesting on 8/29, which then points to the 30th being the correct show. Can anyone provide some evidence, firsthand or otherwise, as to which is the correct date? Was the 'health and happiness' line a recurring theme? Does my finding justify a correction to the Show DB? Thank you, thank you, Ron B. =============================== THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND THE GRANDSTAND, NYS FAIRGROUNDS, SYRACUSE, NY SOURCE: SBD > DAT CONVERSION: CTD8000H-S > DAT2WAV > SOUNDFORGE 5.0 (Resampling from 48kHz to 44.1kHz, level 4 w/anti alias filtering) > WAVELAB 3.3 (edits, see notes) > CD WAVE (track splits) > SHN (w/seek files appended) DAT Source supplied by Michael Niven Transfer/Conversion by Robert Brown DISC 1: *(REQUIRES AN 80 MIN. Howdy folks -- Introducing "Single Sign-on". OK, both of you out there who got that, stop waving your hand and I'll explain it! If you login to this site -- the HTW main site, the "portal" -- and then visit the other sites by clicking the links at the top of the HTW page (e.g., "The Allman Brothers Band", "Dickey Betts", "Flying Frog Records", and "Oteil Burbridge"), the system will now log you in automatically to the other sites. This is "true portal behavior" (sounds like a condition requiring medication). Nothing else has changed -- you can't log in at one of the family sites and then be logged in at all the others, you have to login to the HTW portal. But I think this will help save y'all some keystrokes and it reinforces the concept that HTW is a portal for many other sites on the web. Cheers, jeers, and bug reports in PM to me, please! Rowland

Evening all from Pretty Gumbo Franklin - Pretty? - Pretty Ugly - lol - but my Dad's middle name is Franklin and I think thats cool. Still no Beacon tickets from Ticket***terd for March 16 - naturally this is the first time I score front row seats and they haven't been printed yet, but the charge card has been charged! I'm awaiting an email - feels like I'm being tortured. Anyway, looking forward to Govt Mule this Friday (anyone else going? ) at Vanderbilt, Plainview, NY - the same place where the Hell's Angels and Pagans got it on last Friday night - hope the Vanderbilt beefed up the security - I was wondering how so many weapons got into the place - seems to me this could have been foreseen to some degree. But I digress, I note that Govt Mule will be returning to the Electric Factory in Philly on Saturday, April 13 - Whoooo Hooooo!! Sisters????? Terri - Deb - I'm still interested in tickets for Friday, March 15 - but I'm really concerned with not having received my tickets for the 16th yet - its driving me crazy to say the least! Oh, I remember the Stray Cats - sometime in the late 70's I believe I saw them in the gym at Stony Brook University on Long Island - they were a favorite back then along with Twisted Sister and the Good Rats. Good to read that Chris' surgery was a success.
