Godsmack Feeling Good About Grammy Chances (2/26/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Among the nominees at Wednesday's (February 27) Grammy Awards is Boston-based hard rockers Godsmack, whose "Vampires"--a track from their latest album, Awake--is nominated for best rock instrumental. The band is up against Jeff Beck ("Dirty Mind"), the Allman Brothers Band ("High Falls"), Joe Satriani ("Always With Me, Always With You"), and Steve Vai ("Whispering A Prayer"). Nevertheless, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna is optimistic about Godsmack's chances for walking away with a Grammy. "It's actually something I feel we have a shot at getting. We're up against good people--Jeff Beck, and the Allman Brothers, and Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani. But out of all those bands, we're probably the most current rock band," Erna noted. "So, I think it's in a way kind of cool. Maybe if we were up for best new single or something, we could've been up against Destiny's Child or Janet Jackson or whatever and not even had a shot at it." Even if the band doesn't win a Grammy, Erna told LAUNCH he's happy the band's hard work paid off. "I'm glad someone has recognized the band at least, because the band has definitely worked hard over the last so many years, and we've toured relentlessly. We just, actually, finished up three years of straight touring. For whatever it's worth, it doesn't matter, win or lose, at this point. It's just to be recognized is just a big accomplishment for this band," he said. Godsmack is working on material for its next album. The group also has a new song, "I Stand Alone," on the soundtrack to the upcoming film The Scorpion King, which arrives in stores March 26.
