Having worked with Tommy and all you folks in the "Band", I share in your sadness at Tom's passing. He taught us all so much and was so wonderful. Although I am no longer in the industry, I will never forget all those years. Margie, former GM @ Criteria

Loved that Mule story...Warren's attitude is great. (This isn't a quote, but he said in essence) 'We just did two amazing, huge albums and worked with damn near everyone we've ever wanted to. Hm. Okay, what next?'

SPDB, If you can't tell the difference between someone who opposes war and someone who wants to kill you, or the difference between a pacificist and a terrorist, I feel really sorry for you.

It's too bad that Tom wasn't in the picture on the back of the Fillmore album.

Just out of curiosity I went to Amazon.com and did a search under music for Tom Dowd to see what came up. Well nothing came up. So I searched the internet and a ton came up but I ended up at Barnes & Noble bn.com I believe. 328 CD's came up and some really impressive stuff. I have a lot of it, I knew there was more but some very impressive stuff out there. He will be missed. Crazy thought but imagine what he could produce with the musicians he is hangin with now.

Tom Dowd, RIP Bro'. Didn't know he produced Coltrane's "My Favorite Things". From Aretha Franklin's "Respect" to the ABB he was involved in the some of the best music made in the past 35 years. The fact that TD always held the Live at The Fillmore album as his favorite says a lot about his fondness for our boys. He also had an interesting opinion on the music industry as he said the music biz is all corporate now and it is very difficult for small/unknown bands to get a contract. Couldn't agree with him more.

I heard about Tom Dowd from Derek Trucks himself...on the radio, that is. I had tuned in to Z93 to hear the DTB play at Jake's Roadhouse, and was saddened to hear about the loss of the world's greatest musical midwife. I thought it very classy that Derek dedicated their set to Dowd. Jeff Dunham, the Z93 DJ, was being very gracious and complimentary to Derek, but all Derek wanted to talk about was what a great producer and human being Tom Dowd was. In honor of that, I will offer up my usual Analog Tape offering of the DTB set from last night. It was a fairly short radio broadcast set, but the band definitely kicked it up a notch in memory of Tom Dowd. As filler I have added a great Fiji Mariners show from 1995 with Derek sitting in. I will do my best to accomodate all interested parties. RIP Tom Dowd

Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts on Tom Dowd. Everything that I have ever heard that he produced always brought the best out in people. It always brought peope back to their roots. Think back about how great it was to hear that the ABB had gotten back together in 1989 and that they were reuniting also with Mr. Dowd. You just KNEW the results were going to be spectacular. Thanks also for everyone posting the reviews of the dTb. They are without a doubt my current favorite full-time working band. The new album only touches the surface of their songbank and diversity. Mike Mattison has been a real good fit as well, and he had big shoes to fill. Bring on a live album!! I couldn't see the dTb at any of the shows near Atlanta recently (other than Lakewood), so I am getting psyched for Variety Playhouse w/special guests on Dec 27! Tim

Also, Hophead, I would just like to apologize for not having more to say when I met you. To say that I was inebriated would be an understatement. I truly loved the post you made about going backstage with Warren after the Daytona? show this year. Also, your review of the Trucks show is right on, brother. I also thought that he played better than I've ever seen him. I don't know if I didn't enjoy that show more than anything else I've seen this year, and that includes seeing the ABB four times, and going to Bonnaroo. Pure jubilation, man!!

Funny stuff, Brent! Thanks for sharin'. Speaking of songs with Mule written all over 'em, have they ever covered Led Zeppelin's "How Many More Times" before? I was listening to Zep's first album a couple of days ago and thought Mule could really do that tune some justice. SkyPonyDogBoy, I consider myself to be rational and intelligent, and while I wasn't marching in Washington this weekend, I am 100% against war with Iraq. Advocating peace doesn't mean I'm on the side of our enemies--and I know we've got 'em. If we wind up going to war, I will support our troops all the way, but I'll also pray for a speedy end to the conflict and a minimal loss of life, especially for our men and women in uniform and for innocent Iraqi civilians. Joe Roy, you may think of your surgery as small potatoes, but it is very BIG in my picture, Brother. I'll give my good luck charm a rub for you at 7:30 tomorrow morning--8:30 "Yankee time". You get well soon now, y'hear? EAPFP .
