Sorry if my post yesterday offended anyone, it didn't intend to. I got a few emails either saying right on, or f***off. I was just me spouting off my opinion. That said, these Beacon shows are amazing. Derek is just amazing, IMO. He has so much creative ability. Every one of his big solos are different, night to night, which is also what I thought Duane brought to the band. All his Dreams solos are digging for new ideas and may have similarities right at the climax, but the build up's are all different. Same with AWTNM, Desdemona & others. Warren on the other hand, can rip apart his solos, but he just doesn't go as deep as Derek, to constantly seek new ideas. On the 3/15 show, Warren plays that signature Nobody Knows riff twice in the show, both during the Liz Reed & WP solos. Yeah, I know that's a bit knitpicking and critical, but that's why I admire Derek so much, because of his lack of repitition. You can also argue that Dickey played very similar jams in all of his big instrumentals like IMOER, Les Brer, High Falls, etc. I guess I'm just an overly critical fanatic!!! Happy Birthday's to Eddie P & Cliff. Also, Cowboy Neil, I agree Phil & Friends is a much better band than this latest version of The Dead. Much better!

Birthday greetings to EddieP and Cliff. Great post about Jaimoe and Dick Griffin's gig. Thanks Hank! I have seen Jai in a small setting like that many times. He always slayed me with his perfect playing and improvisation. Great ears, has Jaimoe. Funny as heck, too. EAPFP

Libby, can't recall if there were tapers but seems to me a rig was set up by the soundboard, that might have been the club's...not sure. But.....Dick had the gig videotaped, well 80 minutes worth.. And by none other than the world-renowned videographer Sheyenne...yes, our sweet Lana's sweet daughter. She was hesitant at first about close-ups, zooming in & out, etc. then boom....she became a wild woman with a camera....till the film ran out.... It was a great night and thanks again Hank for bringing back those memories. 🙂 And for those that didn't know, Dick is one (pardon my Language) hell of an artist in more ways than one. His visual artworks are the most beautiful pieces we've ever seen. In fact, most of his cd's are his original artworks. He has a studio in NYC and we told Dick on our next NYC visit, we'll bring extra $$ to buy one of his originals....What a talent this man has..:) Later, Karen

:birthday: to EddieP & Cliff. Hope you guys have a great day. Hank,...Great description/review of the Jaimoe/Dick Griffin gig in N.Y.C. It probably was a once in a lifetime event bro. Glad Karen got to witness it as well. I had a similar experience with seeing the band Go Ahead back in the mid/late 80's in Minneapolis. That band featured Bill Kreutzman, Brent Mydland, Alex Ligertwood and a couple others, whos names I can't remember right now, but it was certainly a treat to have seen them. Hope everyone is doing well. Peace,.....Neil

Happy Thursday Folks, Way to go Rock & Wrap it Up and of course all it's volunteers. Terrib, hope you make the festivities and get to hear Warren as well as the presentation, that's so cool. The ABB deserve a hand too on being part of it all, not to mention those that benefit from this fine endeavor. Winners all around me thinks.. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Hank, we too were at that show with Dick Griffin. Brother you have so perfectly described the playing by this fine, fine ensemble conjured up by Dick. The young lady guitar player was Jane Getter, she was an amazing guitarist and we did purchase one of her cd's. Dick explained she was not his regular player but he also said she was phenomenal. To hear Jaimoe in that setting was just great and I too think it was perhaps a chance of a lifetime. 🙂 Have a great day folks, Later, Karen

Also received The Dead 2-14-03 and a Phil and friends show. Enjoying all, however I am still a big fan of P+F, Warren and Jimmy plus John Molo just take the music to a higher plane. Barraco does kill on sittin On Top Of the World on the 2-14 show. Love that tune! Happy BDay Boys!
