Congrats to Debbie and Gerald 🙂 GO PANTHERS ! ! ! ! Pluck the Eagles....
I went to an oral surgeon here in NM and he was playing ABB, SRV, DEAD, etc. Made me sad I did not have another wisdoom tooth that needed yanking.
Again thanks to all the generous bruddas and sistas on this site
Those of y'all still trying for tickets, keep checking Ticketmaster every time you're you're on the computer. I just had a really good pair in the Loge come up for the Friday 3/19 show, but by the time I bounced back over here to sound the alert, they were gone. Bummer.
Anyway, I guess you never know what will happen, stay vigilant and and something might just drop into your lap!
:bounce:
Hmm...I never thought of Derek's playing as self indulgant...might be a case here of critic preconceived notion of the dTb versus what he actually heard - like all dTb shows, I thought Saturday was outstanding.
At least he got some facts straight ("nephew", not "son", and some fairly obscure musical references correct.)
Btw - anyone know for sure the genesis for the "Jethro Tull-like" (lol) Yonrico drums and Kofi flute "Willisee"?
My short Google search came up with Dewey Redman and Ed Blackwell from "Red and Black in Willisau.
Thoughts & Prayers going out to Pete Scheips and family. If you need anything Pete, you know where I am.
Brother Dave,...Have a blast playing with Jaimoe, and knock em dead!!!
Peace,...Neil
Man, I want to go to that dentist's office! A little dTb action while getting my teeth cleaned...sounds okay to me.
😀
John, Great story, indeed.
Congrats to Terri B's Eagles. I did not think they would beat the packers but they sure played a great game!!!! could it be a Patriot/Eagle Super Bowl?????? I am hoping so. It was one very exciting weekend of football for sure. Hate to see the season end....
Did he just compare Kofi to Ian Anderson???? Jerk.

TO YOU
I'm floored to see Derek's playing described as "self-indulgent"...and soloing described as "showing off"...The Washington Post music critic...Michael Little, whose name is unfamiliar to me...experienced a different DTB show on Saturday night:

Slide guitarist and latter-day Allman Brother Derek Trucks is the nephew of Allman drummer Butch Trucks.
But nephew Derek -- who was touring with his own band when he was barely into his teens -- isn't your typical ramblin' man. There's his love for avant-garde jazz, for example. Unfortunately, this love finds expression in his music as a kind of jazz-lite canoodling. Forget the roadhouse -- this music belongs in a dentist's office.
Saturday at the 9:30 club, the Derek Trucks Band played two sets that ran the gamut from Allman-style blues to John Coltrane's "Afro Blue," with some Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan tossed in for good measure. Vocalist Mike Mattison's infrequent appearances were consistently impressive. He channeled Gregg Allman on "I Feel So Bad," went gospel on Kirk's "Volunteer Slavery," and finished off "Like Anyone Else" with some notes that would make James Brown proud. As for Trucks, he showed that he knows his way around the electric guitar, though his pyrotechnics tend toward the self-indulgent.
Speaking of self-indulgence, if punk thought it killed off the drum solo, Yonrico Scott proved otherwise with a performance that segued -- shades of Jethro Tull! -- into a long flute solo by Kofi Burbridge, who doubled on keyboards. (At least he didn't stand on one foot.) When the players chose to stop showing off and just play as an ensemble -- as they did on "Afro Blue" -- it was possible to discern the possibilities in their "everything but the kitchen sink" fusion. Now if they'd just dirty up their sound a little -- an evening spent listening to Trucks's dentist's office blues leaves you feeling like you've been tied to the flossing post. -- Michael Little

John, that was one heck of a story, wow. I can picture the whole thing, late 60's and early 70's cars going by and stopping in, when gas stations actually worked on cars, man you saw some awesome Detroit iron in that job, that era. Then a little minor rock and roll gift from God. You was blessed son, or dumb lucky, either way, cool........

Go Eagles!
Hey there sweet family,
Wow, John! Great story! :clapping:
Take care and know that *you* are loved,
Lana
Excellent dTb show at the 9:30 Club in D.C. last night! While not unpleasantly oversold (like I heard about a Mule show there in early 2003), it was still very crowded. They played a couple of new (to me) songs to begin the second set, and just kept adding brilliant musicianship to their old songs. What a band, in my opinion! And what Derek does with his guitar, well, you know... 😀
It was also excellent hanging with Jim B and Fred all night, as well as getting to see Tim Hudson, Stephanie and John, John's daughter and son-in-law, and John Ott. A very special thanks to Fred (cleaneduphippy), Beth, Thor, and Sabrina for their gracious hospitality!
I love this Guest Book-friends stuff! Thanks, once again, to Lana and Rowland for creating this wonderful community that I'm so fortunate to be a part of!
On the Delaney and Bonnie topic.
I met them once during the Festival Express that toured Canada and it was one of the biggest thrills of my life.
I was a young punk working at a gas station when a Ryder truck pulled in and proceeded to damage the canopy over the pumps.
Some long haired types jumped out of the truck and proceed to apologize profusely.
While two of them are exchanging insurance information with the Station Manager (my Dad) I start chatting with the third. He tells me that they're with Delaney and Bonnie and that they are headed up the road to a studio for rehearsal.
Before I knew it they were inviting me to head up after my shift ends to watch. My Father (being the cool cat that he could be at times) tells me to go now if I want. Before too long I find myself meeting Delaney, Bonnie and the rest of the band and get to sit through their entire reheasal.
Everyone was very nice to me and Bonnie especially went out of her way to ensure I was having a good time.
I left that day with some great memories and a D&B sticker autographed by everyone that was there (Delany, Bonnie, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, Jim Keltner to name a few) No need to tell you, of course, that I lost that sticker somewhere over the past few years.
Wonder what it would have been worth today? Still have the memories though and they are priceless.
