As great as the Beacon 'trip' was...and as many of you fine folks that I met...I must say I was terribly excited just to shake Tony's hand in NYC - I PM'd him just to let him know that - needless to say I was selfishly disappointed when I heard he couldn't make it.....'Still can't wait to shake your hand, brother. Good Luck - make it happen.

Just got back from the Atlanta Civic Center where I heard Sufi music live for the first time. Pretty incredible stuff! The MC came out and talked about the need for universal love and understanding between all cultures and how music was such a wonderful language of communication. He spoke of the meaning of Sufi music, the letting go of the ego and how it enabled one to reach a higher awareness and love. It was a much welcomed message in these troubled times. The musicians played for about an hour, and when the lead vocalist sang, I swear I could hear Derek's guitar playing! After a 15 minute intermission the band came back on stage with the whirling dervish dancers. How they do it is amazing! I'd be like a drunk kid twirling around but they were so loose...yet in perfect rhythm and rotation. It was a very mesmerizing and meditative experience with a wonderful message in the music...kind of like some other bands I know! JNB

Jacquie, Thanks for the credit but it was stormy who used the "slay the dragon" analogy. Good luck, Scott. You know, you're not a kid anymore. As Oteil (and the Da Boss) say, Walk Like A Man, brother. May you and your bride have a wonderful and inforgettable union.

No jitters here, Jacquie, at least from where I'm sittin'. It has been a remarkably smooth process, and we've both enjoyed it a great deal. Everyone keeps telling us that we're very lucky in that regard. Saturday will be interesting to me in that I'm generally a fairly unobtrusive person, and don't like to be the center of attention. But for one day, EVERYBODY will want a piece of me! Anyway, we're ready to rock. Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes, they have meant a lot. 😀

Congratulations Mrs. Bird! This is a sure sign that things are turning around for you two. Tony, my thoughts and prayers are with you. As Brofan stated..."go slay that dragon" sweetie. I admire your courage more than words can say. Great Scott, how are those jitters? Have a wonderful, wonderful wedding. Please make it a point to take some time to enjoy yourselves, it goes by very quickly. An eternity of happiness to you and Nicole! Uh, yeah, I don't know what it is, but Mr. Haynes is sure knocking me for a loop lately. Always loved him, but he just keeps kicking it up a notch. I keep playing "Who's Been Talking" from 3/19 over and over. It kills me every time.... Much love to everyone tonight.

I have to agree with whoever just posted about EC's new album. What a dissappointment THAT was. I too fully expected that to be acoustic, went to Borders to get it and they were playing it on the speaker - electric. Yuck. No intricacies, no cool accoustic licks, just straight ahead 12 bar blues with different lyrics for each song. I have that Robert Johnson album and it is tasty and unique. From what I heard, not much fingerpicking that DEFINES the delta blues. Bland stuff. Really disappointing. Hope he does an acoustic delta blues album some day.

Supportive thoughts going out to Bird. Glad to hear that Ladybird's employment situation worked out so well, so quickly. That has to help lower the stress a notch or ten.

shineboy, EC did say that about RJ, then BG. He has also said it about SRV. Bird, thoughts and prayers going out to you, Brother. You are one tough SOB and you WILL beat this thing. Everyone here is behind you, Tony.

The way I look at it with EC is, if he wanted to do a tribute to Robert Johnson, why didn't he do it acoustically? Anybody can do those songs plugged in and pull them off. RJ played in a mysterious way, a way that the greatest blues guitarists can't figure out. It's purely the mystique that EC is so consumed with. I don't think anyone could do RJ justice by doing a tribute to the man. If I want to hear the real deal, I listen to RJ. By the way, Eric was once quoted saying Robert Johnson was the greatest guitar player ever. Several years later he was quoted saying the same thing about Buddy Guy. Anybody remember that or am I just talking out of my ass? I liked From The Cradle but this one pretty much puts me to sleep too. Keep up the good threads peachies.

Thanks to everyone for the Beacon "Care Package". Thanks to Jody for packaging and sending and probably ramrodding also....... LOVE Y'ALL. The Oteil signing was the icing.... wow. It was such a drag of a couple weeks there.... in retrospect we should have went, but we didn't know that Cheryl would get a great new job so quick..... all we saw was ugly potential of long tight times and it was hard to justify blowing another $1500 with that dark cloud. Luckily (or maybe not luck) God gave us and Cheryl a gift and an opportunity and she earned it and got it...... so that disaster is averted. Me, got my bad med news and if anyone is wondering, I'll start treatment again for the Hep. The latest research shows dramatic increases in success for treating "relapsers" (not non-responders) by going to 18 month TX. So I am psyching up and gearing for a long train ride starting probably 4 weeks from tomorrow, first shot again. I came very close last time, the virus almost got stomped, so this is the real effort now...... sorry to go on with personal BS, but that is the Bird report, Peace and Love to everyone of youz.
