If you've ever wondered what Bobby Whitlock would sound like jamming with the ABB, take a listen to JAM IV off of The Layla Sessions 3-CD box set. It has Eric and Bobby playing with the Brother's, minus Jaimoe. It was recorded August 27, 1970 and is a version of Howlin' Wolf's 'Killing Floor'. Great stuff. It doesn't get much better than this! Gregg plays piano here and Bobby plays organ. Rick, you just keep on postin' your thoughts and don't worry what people think. "When we finished it ( The Layla album ) and were mastering it, I felt it was the best god**mn album I'd been involved with since THE GENIUS OF RAY CHARLES..." --Tom Dowd fm the liner notes of The Layla Sessions

Good morning all. First off I'd like to say, "Welcome to Hittin'theweb Bobby Whitlock!" By far the overwhelming majority of the folks here are some of the coolest people you will ever meet and have the utmost respect for you, Eric, Duane and certainly the Layla album. I can only think of one request. Please share some of your memories of Eric, Duane and the making of Layla with us. It would be greatly appreciated! Also to Mitch, please take it from the Charlesinator. "If you are going to fly, do it first class." If the 335 is the guitar you really want, then get it! Don't let a few dollars hold you back. You will regret it. The only analogy I can give is like you are going to a brothel in the seventies and for a few extra bucks you get to sleep with Raquel Welch and here you are haggling. Oh yeah, Southpaw. The guitarist you are refering to is Doyle Bramhall II. He is sort of the current darling of all the hip people. Most notable band he was in was the ARC Angels. Everybody knows I love Eric Clapton but I do wish he would hook up with the ABB, DB & GS, DTB, Mule, or Warren. Sure we could use the publicity but I think the trade off of having Eric moved out of his comfort zone and having to play the guitar for real again would be more than worth it. Just my .02. Oh yeah, one more thing. Byard, I love Let It Rain too. Did you know the guitar in the interlude part is none other than Stephen Stills? Also great to hear from your brother. Tell him to fly down from Mount Olympus more often. The mortals here need guidance. LMAO. Peace. ------------------------------------------------- "I can't say as ever I was lost, but I was bewildered once for three days." - Daniel Boone. "So was I, Daniel. So was I." - Charlesinator

You are right. Perhaps I should have kept my opinions on EC to myself on second thought. Rick Tomlinson

Man, hope I didnt miss our chance to ask Bobby Whitlock about the Raw Velvet LP released back in '72. First, though, Id like to say I also think it is an honor that Mr Whitlock stopped by and cruised the ABB site. The question I had, as do others as it has been bantered about at various discussions on different occasions for years is: did Duane Allman do any anonymous work on the Raw Velvet album with you? Thanks again for stopping by earlier and commenting. capt skipper

a couple of weekends ago my buddy Dean got to go to the crossroads guitar festival down in dallas. the start of claptons tour. BB King Buddy Guy jimmy vaughn jeff beck john mayer,RR and many others were there. He had back stage passes for the entire days. a couple of comments he expressed to me, john mayer played on saturday night with BB,buddy, eric and a couple of other cats sitting on the side watchin john mayer play.....he said they all were open mouthed and blown away at what john mayer was doing... I guess the kid can play the blues and also has the chops to follow. They invited him to the following night with the big guns and it was very awesome to see all playing and sharing the stage. he did say BB took a minute to talk as most other guests did about EC. I believe BB King said something to the nature of, this is absolutly the highlight of my career, this night right now playing with the best blues guitarist in the world Eric Clapton.... when the night was over he said eric was drenched in sweat....

Marley, thanks for taking the time to post the review of the new DTB disk. I saw the band several days before that show was recorded, a performance that is talked about still. Mr. Whitlock, your presence is appreciated, and your views and comments on whatever. Please drop by occasionally. So Bro. Lee Roy visited Lizzie and Les Brers? Just gotta' wonder what the boy was thinking. Brings a smile and a tear. Maybe.... Glad y'all had a good time. EAPFP

Happy Fathers Day all!!! I was so surprised yesterday! Here I am a Lowe's with my beautiful Mara, and I told her I was looking at this all-stainless steel BBQ Grille for some time, that it was calling my name to please take me home and let me cook for you kinda thing. Mara looked at me and said "honey, we had planned to get you a grille for Father's Day. Let's get you this one". I was blown away!! Today was the most beautiful day. Not because of the gift, but the love I have experienced. By the way, I recently posted a picture from our Wedding Day on the photos section if you care to see it. Rick Tomlinson
