Alrighty then, I have been talking to a friend of mine, someone, uh, very close to the band, and here is what he had to say about the shows with Skynyrd: These dates with Skynyrd will be three band shows... a short 30 min set by an un named undetermined opening act ... followed by a 90 minute full set by Skynyrd (which is their normal length set) followed by 2 plus hour set by the Allman Brothers Band... as always the end times are dictated by curfews at the venues...but the show lengths will be accomodated by earlier start times like at Red Rocks and the Gorge shows with the Dead and String Cheese The Brothers have spent the summer of their 35th year playing with a wide range of top flight bands -- friends old and new -- and have over the years established a reputation as one of the worlds greatest bands with players of courage and fearless inventiveness... the whole point of playing with a wide array of other bands is to (coppin a lick from duane) keep spreadin the religion.... it does little good in the big picture to only preach to the choir. So the band may not work on new dance steps or play a greatest hits set every night just to appeal to the Skynyrd crowd but you gotta admit that following gimme three steps, sweet home alabama, and freebird every night is gonna be a job... but our boys are up to the task! And their place in history is already set... just go listen to the tapes from Red Rocks and the Gorge and see how they stood up to those bands... This ones a no brainer.... End of report. Oh, there was also mention of ABB... Anybody But Bush....but I see no reason to get poilitical here. 😀

Just thought I'd post this from the July 26 issue of The New Yorker" 'It seems incredible now that there was ever a time when you might have walked by a firehouse in New York City and not thought about the lives of the people who worked inside, even if your lack of attention was in some ways a form of respect, an acknowledgment that mere curiosity wasn’t a good enough justification for looking too closely, for intruding on the privacy of people who lived with death, and faced death, every day. That privacy was blown apart on September 11, 2001, and it is not likely ever to be restored completely, although we started to hear, just a few weeks after three hundred and forty-three firefighters had died at the World Trade Center, and while hundreds of others were still recovering body parts from Ground Zero, that most of the men wanted only to return to their routines, to cook for themselves again instead of eating meals provided by grateful New Yorkers, and to stop bearing the burden of being treated as heroes every waking minute of their lives. Thousands of stories have been written about firefighters since that day, but to a great extent the thick red wall that separates these men from the rest of us remains, as it always will; unless you are a member of this family, you can never know all its secrets.' With September very close, just had to mention it... get to know your firefighters...go by the stations, talk to them. It is your building, they just work and live there. Shake a hand, tell the story of your life. Let them know about the lives they protect. Most spent a third of their lives serving you. Missed birthdays, holidays, and celebrations. All for what...to be there 24/7. Firefighters love what they do and love what you do also. Bring your child by the station just to see a truck. Get a blood pressure reading. Talk to them. They care beyond what you can even imagine.

Hey Dog.... It's cool...I should have proofed my post better. The apology thing was part of another train of thought; sorry 'bout that. Nah, I dont think it's bad when there are differing views. If it serves to spark honest thought and conversation, I am all for it, and I dont take it personal brudder. Hey...did you actually "pick apart my post"? GREAT! Thanks for actually reading it. See, it dont hurt Red Dog, and you did exactly what I do to your posts...I read something and seek clarification, as you just did. The one exception is that I dont carry it out as you did with the personal sucker punch at the tail end. It's OK, but not necessary, for I am kewl as the 'ol cucumber 'bout this stuff. At least now I am after a few years!!! Hope you got your sewer line fixed. Rick Tomlinson

Went to see DTB last night at the Stone Pony. A really great set, 1 encore. Got to shake hands with Derek after the show, he seemed genuinely pleased to be congratulated on a great set. A really nice guy, and unbelievably talented.

Boy that did not take long. Carlosofcoronado is the first one to post the right answer. I guess my wife was right, I will go broke paying for lunches in downtown beautiful Pittsburg. You should be promoted to Peach Corps Crew Chief. Next question tomorrow.

Rick said, Why "exit" Red Dog? LS is not your baby and there is not need to apologize. Rick where did I make an apology? I think my post was more in line with how nasty, the post where getting. (You being one of them), about the two bands playing together. I do not recall saying I did not like LS. People or music. I like the band for what they do. I like the people in the band, past and present. It would be nice to see you read a post the way it is written, and not put things in someone's post, that is not there. Try that, its fun. So far There is nothing to be found about the Oak playing on a hit record before the brothers. I am still talking to people, but nobody seems to know about it. It has been real nice talking with everyone. Have to get back to the political world and worry about the troops gathering on the Mexican side of the boarder, why the boarder patrol people are not allowed to talk with anyone about this. I will be back now and then. Cheer up brother Rick, have some fun. Really we, are not trying to slip something by you with hidden messages in our post.

On the FS question, I guessin' Something by the Beatles. (If that isn't it, my second guess is Black Hearted Woman or any song by Aerosmith!)

Sinatra said "Something" by George Harrison was the greatest love song ever, but that may have been inbetween marriages 😉 Cheers Carlos

I beg to differ, Opening acts do take time from the ALLMANS. I went to RED ROCKS last week with String CHeese as the opening act, and The Allmans only played 1 set.IT was a long one , but we could of gotten a few more songs. When was the last time they only did one set...............I can't remember, can you.............

A P.S. to my trivia question. The song was written and performed first by that particular rock band.
