Alrighty then, I have been talking to a friend of mine, someone, uh, very close to the band, and here is what he had to say about the shows with Skynyrd:
These dates with Skynyrd will be three band shows... a short 30 min set by an un named undetermined opening act ... followed by a 90 minute full set by Skynyrd (which is their normal length set) followed by 2 plus hour set by the Allman Brothers Band... as always the end times are dictated by curfews at the venues...but the show lengths will be accomodated by earlier start times like at Red Rocks and the Gorge shows with the Dead and String Cheese
The Brothers have spent the summer of their 35th year playing with a wide range of top flight bands -- friends old and new -- and have over the years established a reputation as one of the worlds greatest bands with players of courage and fearless inventiveness... the whole point of playing with a wide array of other bands is to (coppin a lick from duane) keep spreadin the religion.... it does little good in the big picture to only preach to the choir.
So the band may not work on new dance steps or play a greatest hits set every night just to appeal to the Skynyrd crowd but you gotta admit that following gimme three steps, sweet home alabama, and freebird every night is gonna be a job... but our boys are up to the task!
And their place in history is already set... just go listen to the tapes from Red Rocks and the Gorge and see how they stood up to those bands...
This ones a no brainer....
End of report.
Oh, there was also mention of ABB... Anybody But Bush....but I see no reason to get poilitical here. 😀
