If you know something I don't - and it sounds like you're implying you know something a lot of us don't know - go ahead and say it in public. I don't know how one of three partners makes a "final decision," but saying that Gregg got rid of Dickey is still inaccurate.
Ahem...Gregg made the final decision and probably suggested it, from all I heard...and hes the one who sent the fax to Dickey. ...maybe you'd care to take this to email or IM? As so not to bore everyone ::chuckles:: or just discontinue the argument. ::shrugs:: Don't misunderstand...I adore Gregg and the whole ABB...I just hurt for Dickey. And the rest I already wrote...Duane would never have allowed it.
XO, much as I love saying the same thing year in and year out, blaming Gregg doesn't make any sense. (Or Butch, which an equal number of people do.) Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe obviously agreed, so either blame them all or stop trying to pick which one was the evil mastermind.
(When you talk about feeling bad for someone, that generally comes across as pity.)
::blinks and smiles:: Marley, darlin'...its not pity...its love...love for Dickey and all the ABB.
While I'm on a roll here with running my mouth ::grins:: let me make a comment about last nights Dead show! OMG! It was awesome! Gonna have to get that 3 CD pack thingie they offer for $22 of the shows...geeze. Warren fits in soooo well with everyone he plays with! The musicians workaholic! Never ISN'T playing somewhere with someone, so it seems! The whole show was wonderful...wish I was going to tonights show in Camden as well! If I wasn't going to see Dickey tomorrow night...I'd be going to see Warren's acoustic show in Philly!
BTW...like so many others, I've resented Gregg for his outing Dickey...but I am as always... loyal to the ABB. Only comment I have about that is this...If Duane was still around, it would never have happened. Period. Once a brother... always a brother.
XO, no need to play the pity card. 😉 Dickey is fine, that happened 4+ years ago, and it's extremely rare that anybody says anything less than nice about Dickey here (contrast with comments about the Allmans on Dickey's GB if you like).
Southpaw! ::chuckles:: What a hoot!
WOW! I don't read anything posted for 24 hrs and all I see is stuff making me feel bad for Dickey! Sheesh! Wha happened??? I already feel bad enough about Gregg kicking out a brother...don't make me feel even worse for him! ::winks:: Anyone know why Dickey postponed the NJ show? I hope thats not what all the comottion in here is about! I see theres quite a few people that live around my way ::smiles:: Any of ya planning on going to Mondays concert in Ocean City? I'm excited! I have 3rd row seats...but am especially looking forward to some of that 1:1 time with Dickey that I keep hearing hes so good at! ::winks:: Hmmmm....Lay back and listen to Blue Sky? 🙂 Sure...thats always a nice song to listen to! Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday...lets all try to be nice about Dickey, okay?
Having recently dabbled in helping book shows, my limited experience tells me ChrisR is right. Musicians focus on music--not bookings.
Dickey uses an agency, I've spoken to them several times. They handle the booking.
Hemlock, Derek and Otiel completed the front line in 2000.
I was at the 5/7 show and found it interesting to watch Derek and Otiel basically run the band. Dickey's response was one of his best performances ever, IMHO. My friend SPDB has told me how the current line-up in his band gives him some freedom from having to do all the singing, run the band, and play spontaneous solos. Maybe Dickey and the band were dealing with a similar dynamic in 2000. I don't know. I do know 5/7 was Dickey's last show with the band.
so Im puttin on my socks this morning, and this creepy thing in my left sock starts to wiggle around and tries to bite me:freaked: OH man.....yuck I start to scrambble and my sock is off in milliseconds, thinking what the hell crawled in my sock and how did it get in there......YUCK.......man was it big....so when I roll my sock back getting ready to smack:hammer: whatever comes running out of there,
I see its a penny:lol:
Everyone should lighten up. Relax and enjoy the day. Maybe listen to a little Blue Sky!
Yo Luke, with a name like that Who cares Who He might be Referring 2?He's not like You,Myself & many others that have Spent time with Dickey Betts 1 on 1,just sitting around hangin out...Now if He's Implying that Betts DOUBLE Booked just to make $,it just shows He's not in the Know.As far as keeping a Band together,It's Dickey's Band!He can Update or Replace Who'm ever He see's FIT..Wow I just thought of a good Idea, maybe Rick can call Butch & get His Opinion on this matter....
Idlewildrick. I'm not certain who you are refering to either, however keep in mind that the atrists do not book their shows. They have agents who do it for them. In otherwords if there were an owner of a trucking company and one of your trucks needed service that individual wouldn't be out there twisting wrenches, they would have a professional do it.
The same is true with an artist. They are not booking gigs. They're writing songs and playing music. They hire a professional agent to do their bookings. Like you and I, agents are human and screw-ups happen.
To suggest an artist intensionally double booked a gig is ludicrous and plainly goes to show that you are speaking about a field that you are not involved in professionally. Additionally, if an artist doesn't show for a gig, A) They don't get paid and B) Depending on the contract, They most likely will be subject to pay a fine or face legal action. You may want to take a look at some performing contracts. I deal with them fairly often and while no two are exactly the same, they pretty much are somewhat simmilar. The exceptions being how strong the penalty is for non-performance. On a larger show where there's promotion involved, expect attornies to be involved. Believe me, if an artist doesn't show, he ain't gettin' no money! Put that outa yer head!
Regarding the guitars, I know of a guitar player named Dickey Betts who is a grammy award winner as well as being bestowed with the anoitment of "One of the 10 most influential guitarists in the history of Rock" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Well, Dickey had been playing a Stratocaster since 1997, either as his main guitar or as his slide guitar. Gibson offered to make a signature Les Paul about 5 years after he was playing the Stratocaster. Additionally, they use their own pick-ups even though Dickey is sponsored by Seymore Duncan, which he uses in his Stratocaster and his old Les Paul, Goldie. Gibson was fully awhere that Dickey intended to use his Stratocaster before, during, and after they started his signature series Les Pauls. Everything laid out on the table in black and white. No suprises for any of those involved and both parties agreed to it going in.
My guess is that your friend has the same type of arrangement.
I think RickT made it perfectly clear what he meant, LUKE.
hey gang good morning:cool:
happy sunday all:waving:
Doublebooking for more money, regardless of the so called facts, is unethical, unprofessional, and it does not do a lot to show fans they are appreciated.
If that is the "game", then the game needs to end in my view. Honest mistakes aside, this should have not occurred at this level of performing, period.
But then again, it does cast a light on a few things...like its all about the money for some folks. Maybe that is why they can't keep a band together.
Again, I'm all over the honest mistake thing, but in this case, I doubt that happened. But hey, if the guy want to keep aleniating his fans and give 'em the finger, and telling your guitar sponsers to go eat their crap and pick up a Strat in their face, let him. You do that enough and you wind up co-billing with the Dixie Chicks at the "Grand opening of Publix" Tour coming soon in your hometown, where its buy a CD, get a coupon for a free can of Alpo "everyday"!!
Maybe Butch WAS right...
Rick Tomlinson
Hey Look! Ticket onsale date for the Raleigh show is now known....
I'm sad. It's an annual event that I go to an Allman Bros. show in Hartford, CT for my birthday, which is always the weekend after my birthday. Alas, can't go this year. I now live in Germany (husband is in the service stationed here) and I think it's been awhile since the Bros. have been here in Europe.....
Dead @Darien Ruled! Warren was , well very pleasing to ears with solo, also anyone there notice the erie sound of warren sounding like brent mydland on just a little light? This show was clean, a must have, even my past criticism of bob weir is no longer valid..these guys rock... see you all at Darien 09/06 for Allmans?
If you've never been, come to Darien!
:flower:  :glow:
YES., TUNA Reported correctly (and KNOWN RIDER) will confirm; LINNieX met and spoke with warren for 15 whole minutes tonight 🙂
if i died tonight, i'd have a sh!t eating grin on my face.
asked two questions (pre planned) but forgot to ask about MOOGIS just to see what his reaction was (that may have been WRONG)...
anyway, first and foremost, i asked warren "do you read the HTW site at all??" and he said "sometimes people print stuff out for him" so i thought that was coooll... and noteworthy....
secondly, i had started a thread in the forum about what Warren's song "The Real Thing" was about, like, who it was about...i figured it was personal and it was suggested that it might have been about Woody, but as Marley pointed out they played it before we lost woody so it couldnt be him....
i thought REAL THING might have been about Kurt Cobain (cuz i know warren is pretty hip) but Tonight, from Warrens mouth he said the following, and i apologize if i get it sorta wrong but maybe KnowRider will fix it (cuz he was there too):
from warren (about real thing): "I guess it was written for a composite of people, no one in particular. i wrote it about 1987 i guess".
Leah, you badlittledoggie you, - you got the first call....:) love ya sis! 🙂
WARREN YOU ROCK....
i also told brian "sorry about your brother, everyone on the site sends their condolences". he was a cool cat.
KNOWN RIDER, please - write this out better.
thanks, love you guys!!!
AGHHHH!!!!
