Hey Familia! Real Excited tonight. Just looked at the calander and it appears to be 2 weeks before...THE JAM FOR DUANE! Hoping everything works out so I can head down to 'Bama for this worthy shindig. Brothers Brent and Buppalo are the Masters of Ceremony and from what I gather-there is going to be a fine line-up of music surrounding the entire event. I'm really glad that these cats have started this FANbased- grassroots event several years ago and that it is finally growing into something notable. Think about the phrase friends...THE JAM FOR DUANE! That's pretty heavy. Contact Buppalo or brent here for more info on location, etc.. Bye all! TAB

TerriB is correct Mike07- the beloved Fillmore East Location:105 Second Avenue at E. 6th Street, NYC is indeed...ehh, not even a friggin bank- it's an ATM location where we used to stand on line and watch *(and listen) to Bill Graham go ballistic on jerks out in the street! TanDan is correct also- the only thing remaining of the sacred dwelling of all musical spirits is the friggin marquee! Sometimes I have to cross over to the other side of 2nd Ave because it nauseates me to see a line of East Village transplanted Yuppies drawing out their bags of money from where the sacred box office was! Shoot, Fillmore was (and is-and will always be) one of the greatest acoustic halls where so many of the greatest live events were captured live on record at the time. WE witnessed New Years Eve with Band of Gypsies; Humble Pie; Cream; the Very Original Real Grateful Dead- and of course-Duane's Original Band of Brothers! Shoot- I even recently copped a great CD version of the closing night when Duane said-" Awful quiet out there"! Oh well, truthfully-I don't ALWAYS walk across the street. Sometimes- coming home late from some other event- I will walk up to the side of the sacred Shrine and rest my head up against the new brick-and if I try real hard I can block out the sounds of cabbies honking and cursing at everyone- and I can almost swear that I hear Jimi's "Machine Gun" or Leslie West's fat (no pun Mr. Weinstein!)- very fat feedback on "Long Red" . But I can always hear Raymond Berry's ghost rumble the start of "Whipping Post"! Or is that a subway down deep below the street instead? 🙂 LOng Live Fillmore East! And the memory of the $5.50 Orchestra seats! TAB

After the beer I headed up to get my ILs. I bought two, one for Beverly who is the best when it comes to sharing her music with me. The Fox shows were waiting in the mailbox when I returned home from Bev. About 6ish a local disc jockey from KROX holding their 17th birthday bash accompnied by the Oklahoma Sooners cheerleaders and pom squad came on the stage. It was a gol dang football pep rally. I quickly found out I was surrouded by huge OU fans. The big game was today OU won. I had no idea all this was happening but the girls were of course beautiful. It started raining now and one friendly fellow had a roll of big garbage bags. Two bits a bag just to pay for the roll he said. Well this girl I'd been watching before paid by pulling up her shirt and bra. Her shirt said "I'm a fu*&%#@ ray of sunshine". Well I was the only one in the entire area that missed the early show. I wondered what she might do for a backstage pass. It's still raining but we aren't getting wet. Now it's getting time for LS. A screen advertizes their new album. Then it begins playing an LS cartoon with Dog the bounty hunter. Then home movies of the old LS with all the dead ones also. Back to the cartoon and more albums pushed. Ok this was really wierd in your face. Cut to the chase after more movies and the end of the cartoon with some of LS getting in late from a fishin trip it showed the band in the dressing room getting ready to come out on stage. Then as they left the dressing room on the screen they came on stage. I swear this happened.. Did I miss the part about LS being a show band. Everything was staged even to slaps to the piano player. They played the exact same songs they play at every show. Hey the crowd loved it and I'll be the first to admit it was pure Rock and Roll for 1 1/2 hours with no let up. They were very good at what they did and put on a good show if that's what you are looking for. I found out there are two originals left. I didn't want to ask too many questions after all I didn't want them to know I was an IDIOT!! After the last song and I was hoping for no encore the fans didn't sweat it they knew LS was coming back to do Freebird. I don't have a comparison but it was great. Lots of solos. Wife just called supper so mare later. Ernie

Oklahoma City, Oh so pretty, It's the Allman Brothers Band. Got jealous of all the great happenings at the Fox and I decided to take a road trip. I checked and Ok City was a mere 10 hours away:) Bought our express tickets over the web and booked a room in the Holiday Inn. Left at 4:45 Wednesday am from just over 670 miles to go. I wont mention that it rained the whole way except for the last 35 miles. Our directions took us right to the zoo amp and my Bud went to will call and got them. Then off to the hotel to check in and right back to the zoo. We had express tickets which allowed you a 30 minute head start on the less fortunate. Walking from our parking place past a huge blocks long line to enter I had my Bud check and make sure our tickets were different. Oh crappola they were identical. Well it's not our fault it's theirs. We drove from Denver 10 hours today. Undaunted we approached the express entrance. There on the pavement not 5 feet from where we were checked for weapons was a back stage pass. October 6th and initialed by Kirk. We were quickly checked and THEY NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT OUR TICKETS. In reality there were two lines, one for people with Big Kahunas and those with little ones:) We were in and walked down to the front. The zoo amp is open air with a wonderful stage. Area about 20 deep in front of the stage for standing and then a lawn area up to the top. We picked our place to sit on our lawn chairs allowed right in the middle about row 18. I streched my feet out as far as they would go and still had 2 feet before the next chair. That was our space for the whole concert. They sold huge cans of Miller 24 ounces for $5.50. I had one and joined the high life:0 More later don't want to lose what I've written. Ernie

The brothers played "The Sky Is Crying" at the Chicago Theatre with Pinetop Perkins in August of 2001. Gregg and Warren alternated lead vocals on that one. It smoked! This band never ceases to amaze me!

The Travel Channel had an excellent program earlier in the year that had a segment on the Fillmore. Check your listings, it'll probably be repeated every now and then.
