Happy Birthday to our good friend, Marley! Check out his latest addition to Hittin' the Note in the brand-new issue - a terrific article on none other than Oteil Burbridge. Many happy returns of the day to you, Brother Marley! Or, as Owl wrote down for Pooh to give to Eeyore, "Hipy Papy Bththdth." Willie Howard (from Mayberryetta, a suburb of Hot'lanta)

Excellent point, Southpaw--the wise will pay heed. Hop, it took time to compose your thoughts and type them down--thanks for the picture you painted for us. If the road truly is to go on forever, it's up to the next generation to tell the tale. Happy Birthday Marley Seaman. Hope you have a great day, Li'l Bro. And speaking of great days, SkydogJ, it's your turn. I hope you enjoy this Thursday as much as I enjoyed the last one. Have fun, see you in October. EAPFP

just about 3 yrs ago a local club here opened up bringing in national talent. Dereks band played twice to sell out shows. But lots of other bands that came through did not fare as well. The owner was a spoon fed punk with a major attitude....who just refused to hire local bands....dereks show this year was the last national act hired there. At that time they had already changed the name to red river saloon and were featuring texas bbq...I drove by yesterday and see the place went up for sale and is out of business. I heard a mil plus went up his nose. after the way I was treated by this 20 something owner as the other local musicians I have heard stories on......you poor little rich kid....go cry to daddy now..... The music scene here has always been difficult.....but when you refuse to pull the local bands in when they could have help with attendence....O well....

:birthday: Marley! Lizzie..I understand how you feel about your cousin Danny..sorry if it upsets you how I feel about his nature or guitar playing..I have never "run Dickey down" .... I have been a fan of Dickey's for over 35 years..since I first saw him play at SUNY with the original band....I am biased (sp?) toward Dickey, just as you are biased toward your cousin.....not only for Dickey's genius, but for the person he is. I was there when Dickey gave Danny a hand up ...that is a fact...not an opinion....While its no secret Dickey can be difficult, at best...I know from my own personal experience, he has a heart of gold, and there is nothing he wouldnt do for a friend.....Mileage may vary...... Sorry to all the beautiful Peacheads that my post stirred this up.... Hop, great review! I am so looking foward to the 3 FLA shows...thanks for the appetizer....eap Ca

Thanks for sharing Hoppie. Love to read your posts. Missed my morning train this morning by a hair but had I made it, I wouldn't have been able to listen to John Hiatt sing "Have a Little Faith In Me" while waiting in the parking lot for the next locomotive to NYC. Sometimes the radio pleasantly surprises me. It's rare, but boy it sure feels good when it happens. Good day, all! Have some fun today, Marley!

Take a look at the M.T.B. DVD from 1981with George Mc Corkle playing killer lead which didn`t happen at all in the bands early days. I was very surprised because he always played rythem, so Dan might have to earn the #1 spot.

Hey Hop...beeeutiful review buddy! I felt like I was right there with ya! Sounds like you actually had some interaction with the band too while you were groovin' to the fine music being played... We all know you can't always judge a show by the setlist - I learned that lesson with The Dead too for years - but in this case when I read the songs that were played and in the order they were played plus the fact it was in a great musical city - you just know this show was special...and judging from Hop's review it certainly was! I love that Jessica has made it back in the rotation. Even though these recent ones are obviously without Chuck, I can say I have a few versions from 2001 with no Chuck as well and they honestly SMOKED!...it gives Derek the an empty canvas to come up with something new and interesting and I'm all about that - exploration and flying by the seat of your pants. Isn't that what its about? On a closing note, isn't it so much better when you get these "An Evening With..." shows in the summer? You get a better setlist, longer jams and just an overall more creative looking show in general. I know this double-bill deal brings in more fans but who's fans?...not our fans...ya know? ..."An Evening With The Allman Brothers Band"...I really like the sound of that... Peace Happy Birthday Marley!...you little Yoda...LOL!

Hemlock, you mean the Tractor Bass? If so it was made up of parts from 3 different Fender basses. The body is from a 1962. The neck from a 1966 Starburst Jazz. There is a more technical answer in Berry's forum from his son.
