My thanks and apology to chris at TourPros for the phone call. I was just too far in the woods of S. Al to
get a clear signal for Radio Betts.
Every year at this time, it is so
special for me. I look forward to seeing and meeting all of you who get to make the JFD this year. There
are some real special surprises in store. Some very historic persons
close to Duane and the music. Of
course, we have Johnny Sandlin, Boyer, Talton, Stewart, Hornsby, and
the great Lee Roy Parnell.
Thank you Jack P. for the music and the great performance at 2nd street.
You are just the best and I love ya.
How 'bout that waffle house......
For yall travellin in, be safe.
We'll all be there, jammin for Duane.

Nostalgia: From the Greek, 'a return to pain'. Always loved that word.
Got it...and replied.
Done Sista....
Karen, check your PMs please.
Thank you for posting that bluefox!
You could add Derek Trucks to that list for me as well.
Eric played a variety of strats last night, although from where I was sitting I could swear that I saw a gibson in the rack which he never reached for. What was funny is that they had real small marshalls on top of their rigs, I guess as a sort of flip the bird kind of joke to some people who complain that they dont play through marshall stacks anymore. the sound wasnt overly bombastic but it was crystal clear. you could easily hear jacks frenetic playing all over the neck of the bass. One more note, some people like to bash on clapton for his recent works, myself included, but what made last night so special was his remarkable ability and god given talent to floor you when the mood hits him. Last night was a game of cat and mouse for eric in which he would tease and tease and tease and then hit you with something so flowing and spectacular that you could swear the music was pouring out of him. It didnt happen often, but when it did ( TOB Ulysees, Stormy monday), it made you numb. Only 3 players in the world have made me feel this way, Stevie Ray, Eric and of course Duane. Unfortunately I didnt get the chance to see Stevie or Duane, but I am grateful to have set my ears and soul on eric last night. He was Great.
Nothing wrong with nostalgia. People sometimes want to point out that particular music wasn't nostalgic. I'm sure for most people that is is exactly what Cream was. Great feelings about hearing timeless music that meant so much to them in their youth. What not to like?
To everyone that was fortunate enough to be at the Garden for Cream--I'm really envious. Thanks for all the reviews. I know most of us really appreciate it. It had to have been a truly special night. :smokinsmiley: Been the ultimate if Jack and EC had sported matching :afro: like in '68.
Just can't get past EC playing a Strat w/Cream, though. That just ain't right....

He played a Strat last night.
Hey, y'all, long time, no see! I may be able to make it to the JFD this weekend after all, can someone give me directions and times for the Saturday festivities? Thanks!
So is EC playing a Strat again at MSG, or has he switched "back" to a Gibson of some sort?
GO WHITESOX..........1 more win!!!!!!EAPFP
O.K., have recovered enough from last nights Cream show at the Garden to post a review. To start off the musicianship of these old timers was spectacular. The show was by no means without flaw, there were some obvious train wrecks along the way but the highs that were hit were the ''peakin'' kind, and I know you all know what I mean. While the wild experimentation of the old band is pretty much history, it was replaced last night with solid musicianship. The show started off pretty slowly with Im so glad, with Clapton taking short jabs at the jam and pulling it back like he was teasing. A solid Spoonful came next, Jacks playing was top notch on this one. Outside woman blues with Eric still jabbing but not opening up. Ginger took the vocals on warthog, a very Psychadelic number. This is where the show exploded with the opening bars of Tale of brave Ulysees, the only song in which Eric would use the wahwah. They absolutely killed it. Eric finally opened it up and it was like being hit w/ a freight train. The solos were flowing out of the end of his guitar like it was an extension of his being, Terrific. Mind blowing. Worth every penny I spent right then and there. The funniest thing happened when they closed on that number, the crowd started roaring and it just cascaded for several minutes to where the band couldnt jump into another number . From then on it was magic. Sleepy time time, badge, politician, sweet wine, all had terrific Clapton solos until we then hit Stormy Monday. Now I have seen The Allmans play this about 20 times, but tonight this one belonged to EC. Started it at center stage w/ a 5 minute solo before baker and Bruce joined in and never looked back Aside from TOBU, this was the second best peak of the night. Rollin and tumblin came next w/ Bruce on harp and Ec on slide. This one also built to a peak and a rythym that wouldnt quit. Born Under a bad sign was a solid one for ginger and Jack holding down the bottom. Jack switched to a wood frettless bass for it and the bottom end shook the rafters. Crossroads I would say was my least favorite, only going about half speed but the crowd loved it.White room came next. Eric looked like he wanted to use the wah but there was some problem w/ it and he ended up straight up on it. Still terrific. The closer of Toad was the big surprise. They started off w/ the intro, then left Ginger to his own and he killed one of the best drum solos I have ever seen one man play. He just kept thumping away, w/ many a jazz phrase thrown in that just kept flowing and flowing. great stuff. I think the crowd was stunned. Jack an Eric came back out to finish the song and it was followed by a well deserved thunderous roar. Sunshine was the encore obviously, real good but having heard EC do it at almost every show ive seen just a little too many times. All in all it was a great night, More than I expected and it was by no means a nostalgia trip. These guys can still play. P.s. The lighting backdrop for the whole show was reminiscent of the brotherhood of light. pss. The Allmans were well represented with the amount of t shirts in the crowd. Never been to a non allmans show and seen that many ABB shirts in my life. Peace

Cream.
got several blackberry emails from my buddy Bruce Tanis last night who was there.
like others here he was taken to another place by the quality of playing and his comments were more about Baker & Bruce really and he is a guitar player and huge Clapton fan.
maybe the passion of not playing much has them 2 at the top of their old game.
he said the harmonica playing and deep drum based playing was tribal.
glad all over? - no that's the Dave Clark Five.
they were so glad.
thank goodness for Tom Dowd and that Indian drum beat.
best.
Cream? MSG? What sort of bizarre Chinese food are we talking about?

hey gang good morning:cool:
Ginger Baker once put on a drum clinic here in the springs, I went with a non musician buddy but a big fan. when we walked in the place, it was crowded but packed by the time he went into his performance. So my buddy and I walk in, Ginger is sitting at the bar all by himself, actually I do not believe anybody knew it was him. so we sat down next to him and chatted for almost an hour. talking all kinds of things even his polo horses. he then gets up for his performance and the look on folks faces as he was sitting there the whole time was precious......
there is a G.B. CD out called Passages, I highly recommend it, if you can find it.
hope all are having a Groovy one:dance:
