Eric played a variety of strats last night, although from where I was sitting I could swear that I saw a gibson in the rack which he never reached for. What was funny is that they had real small marshalls on top of their rigs, I guess as a sort of flip the bird kind of joke to some people who complain that they dont play through marshall stacks anymore. the sound wasnt overly bombastic but it was crystal clear. you could easily hear jacks frenetic playing all over the neck of the bass. One more note, some people like to bash on clapton for his recent works, myself included, but what made last night so special was his remarkable ability and god given talent to floor you when the mood hits him. Last night was a game of cat and mouse for eric in which he would tease and tease and tease and then hit you with something so flowing and spectacular that you could swear the music was pouring out of him. It didnt happen often, but when it did ( TOB Ulysees, Stormy monday), it made you numb. Only 3 players in the world have made me feel this way, Stevie Ray, Eric and of course Duane. Unfortunately I didnt get the chance to see Stevie or Duane, but I am grateful to have set my ears and soul on eric last night. He was Great.
