Southern music: re-birth or last gasp? Stay tuned!
Randy, the types of music that we all enjoy will probably never have the mass appeal necesarry for a complete "rebirth". Personally, I'm okay with that. But it always does my heart good to see the younger folks at the shows ... seeing Scott Boyer's son up there with the CRS, for example gives me hope for the survival (preservence, even) of the music that we all hold dear.
Dreams are the foundation of our life...look around you..almost everything aound you was someones dream..the paint, the car , the laptop, the chair, the cable tv , you name it.. there is only one thing that I know of that makes a dream into reality..work..
Maybe shouldn't post this, came to mind watching the DVD, some of the Macon crowd scene. Brent, Lefty and I have occasionally discussed what's going on in my town. We're all dreamers, believe in the impossible....I kinda' gave it lip service, not wanting to rain on their parade. But Friday night, I had conversations with two people that were in a position to know what they were talking about. One said, "This place feels just like Macon when Duane first came." Another said, "We're almost back to where we were in the mid-seventies, before death and disco derailed southern music." They both followed these statements with words to the effect of, "Or it could all amount to nothing."
Never hurts to dream, though...does it?

....to leave me out here, on my own.
'Cause this ain't gonna' be the first time....
Speaking of which, I accomplished absoloutely nothing after I got home last night, thanks to Denza and Sista' Libby. The DVDs are incredible. Make you laugh, make you cry, make your heart sing. A nice showcase of how Dickey took over, kept things together at an awful, wonderful time. The most popular band in the world, just after losing 2 cornerstones. Nice to see Johnny Sandlin and Paul Hornsby, 2 members of CRS, get credit on the Don Kirshner show, can't wait to get copies into their hands. I'm sure they've seen much of this before, but they haven't seen how Denza put it together. They also need to see his "Not for Sale" disclaimer and attitude, helps explain that we're the good guys.
Congrats to Cujo, birthday greetings to Drew.
Really awful what those folks in W. Va. are living through.

Prayers out to the families in WV...terrible, terrible news.
Congrats to Joe Pa and Penn State...what a game !!!! Shelbmeister and I stayed up and watched the entire game. Have to admit we were hoping for a FSU win, oh well...both teams deserve kudos as far we're concerned.
Later, Karen
ps - Lefty..THANK YOU !!

Well put, Lefty
Those are some nice words that capture the feelings I get as well.

I gotta get back to Dallas,
and tie up a few loose ends.
Gonna work a week,
make hunnerd dollars,
aww and hit the road again.
but you won't be the first...........
Just a suggestion, If you haven't seen Bruce Springsteen's DVD from 1975....man are you missing out. My brother took me to see the last leg of that tour in 1977 and I was I kid. It is the reason that they called him the Boss. I'm still wondering how he ended up with an country slang? He didn't have it on this dvd.
congrats to Cujo...and a thank you to all that spend thier workday protecting, educating and healing people...
Hop, as usual, a great post...but i agree with lana..you did accomplish something very special..i get that feeling everytime i come here..everytime I get am email from one of the family..everytime I am lucky enough to pick up a guitar and play music from the ABB...everytime my phone rings and I smile because it is one of you on the other end...and lately, seeing my bandmates awestruck at how cool everyone here is when we play, is something that really brings it home for me..the seeds that the original memebers planted are the seeds that so many of us continue to spread today..as i learned of the sadness and loss in West Virginia this morning, and another suicide bomber in Iraq, and a deadly Ice Rink collapse in Germany, and so on , I am reminded how much I value all of you....of how we change each others lives for the better, a little bit every day....like any family, we disagree sometimes ...but those things pass, and before you know it, we are dancing , laughing, hugging, trading, chatting, traveling or just plain listening to the music that connects us...
In short, there are many great musicians all over the world...but the past and current members of this band make music that touches a very special place in each of our hearts..but it takes the collective of all of us to spread the seeds..in my opinion, that is what makes this place special..all of us..
:fanfare:
Congrats to Cujo!!
:fanfare:
:birthday: to Drew 😀
Mega congratulations to Cujo!!! Your family should be very proud!
Hophead, your post was absolutely beautiful. Your feeling of transcendance is something I understand and it is why, after 36 years, I keep coming back.
A friend told me it's "ecstatic recall" - a moment in time that brings you back to another moment, long ago, when one was much much younger when the music lifted us up to heights we've only occasionally reached.
I think the most recent moment like that for me was the performance of Dreams at the Fox a couple of years ago. Dreams is a song during which I always sit, close my eyes and let it take me away - and when it is played right - when it is played like Duane played it - I can physically feel my heart being lifted, my lungs opening up to accept all the air they can hold, allowing me to float - it is as close to entering heaven as one can get.
