Hey CUH and RD, just a light hearted story regarding your branches of the service. BLD you might get a kick out this too seeing as how your nephew is in the USMC. My father is a Vietnam veteran and former Force Recon Marine (I know once a Marine Always a Marine)....so he likes to bust chops about the Navy. He also was known for being a bit of a wise guy when he served (impersonating higher ranking officers), almost cost him dearly a few times, although may have saved his own life and a few other lives once. Also got him his nickname of Field Marshall. He is still very much involved with the Marine Corps as a fundraiser that helps families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Anyway, my parent's next door neighbor's son is a plebe at USNA and has elected to join the Marines after his time at the USNA. So before he left for the Academy, my dad told him if anyone asks what department the USMC is of the Navy, tell them its the Men's Department. Incidentally, he never told the poor boy he was kidding. So the time comes in the mess hall at the USNA, and a female officer calls out our friend and asks him what he will do after graduation, at which point he replies he will be joining the USMC. So of course, she asks him: which department of the Navy is the USMC? He of course says dead seriously, The Men's Department. This went over like a fart in church as is expected. She asks again, and he comes up with the same answer. Well, needless to say, he got in a lot of hot water. He came home and rang my old man's door bell and said, "Do you know how much trouble you got me into!!?" My dad nearly fell down laughing.
Hey Reddog,
Have to agree with your first paragraph, as it's pretty much sums up the way I feel. Don't post here in the GB all that often, mostly I'm over in the Whipping Post, getting political. You ought to drop by there some times, certainly would appreciate your point of view. Of course, things can get a little lively over there.
Anyway, you and yours take care and Semper Fi from an old Navy field corpsman.
Jumping jacks, what can I say. I thought for sure that, I had made a lot of enemies here on this old tied guest book. Old tied, is a saying from back in the wild days of riding motorcycles, that we used to call each other, like yo what's up old tied. I am sure that someone would have taken that phrase the wrong way, but as you can see its just an expression of love and friendship. Kurt West told me I should go over and read some of the post on the forum. I did and must say I did not burn as many bridges as I thought I did. You people said some very nice thing and believe me, your words touched my heart. Made my eyes water up. I know my political views upset a lot of people, and I still stand by my beliefs. I still say that if a person is holding an elected office, even if its the head of the Sanitation Dept. they got to go. Mainly the senate, and house. Vote everyone in office out. Its time for a big change. It would take six years to do it, and with a little luck, lord knows we need some, we might not have to go through all this 9/11 stuff, or lose jobs because the corporations want to go back to the days of paying low wages. Like the way they did the Chinese people, pennies and a couple of cheap meals a day, to build the rail road. That is why all these people are being slipped into the country. Politicians are in the pocket of the corporations and look where we are. A lot of talk and no action. Time for the people to act, vote them out. Looks like that is what they did to Liberman. Some people got hip.
Even with what some people call, my out there views, you still posted some very nice things. Like I said, you touched my heart, and I thank you. My son blew me away with his post. My eyes did not water up they ran. Right now he is attending school in Orlando, Fl. I always want to call the school Pro Sail, but its called Full Sail. He is into producing and mixing things together. One guitar track from one record and say a drum track from another record, then puts it altogether in this stuff, they call Electro music. Some weird stuff, but I can see where it can go. Music of the future. Just like when the electric guitar came along. Sometimes change is a good thing. I moved back here and the next month he moves to Fl. Bummer. I miss him and can't wait till he gets home so we can get started on some hip ideas he and I have for the book and other things. He was so right about the book. I got more pleasure out of writing the book and it did make my ego jump. The book was something I did. I wrote every word in long hand, I did not tell the story to a writer, nor did I have a ghost writer. To understand this feeling of satisfaction you would have to understand how others look at the roadies that set up the drums. The sounds troopers think they are the brains and have the most important jobs. Then you have the string roadies. Now, notice I am using the term Roadie instead of Professional Technician, or Sound Engineer. It seems that most roadies are hung up on titles. I like the term roadies. That is what we were when I started, and felt it is good enough till the day I check out. roadies are jacks of the trade. Roadies that set the drums up, are not thought to have a very tough or mind thinking job. So when I wrote the book, the satisfaction was so much better. How many people actually set down and write a book? Once again brother Duane words ring out. Red Dog is the who will write the book. He knew even when I didn't Achievements do so much for the soul and ego. They set the spirit free. Lord knows, I am a free spirit in the web of, space and time. If you have not read the book you should, plus watch the DVD and you can see and feel the free spirit that roams in my soul. Listen to A. Warriors Song and you can hear the patriotism, and feel the honor that I have, knowing I fought and bleed for my country. So when you disagree with my words step softly and know you are on sacred ground. I for one have the right to speak out. I may not agree with the reason our troops are in combat, but you can rest assured I will support them. Hell, if I was in better shape I might like to join them. Nothing wrong with a good scrap now and then. Keeps one on his toes. Chill and the World will chill with you
I remember looking out my window at the smoke pouring out of the first tower like a tire fire
I remember watching the second plane hit with my naked eye
I remember the panic on my Mothers(who lived through the depression and WWII) face when she arrived at the door
I remember putting my wife, kids and mother in a car in a state of confusion
I remember seeing them collapse through my windshield
Then
I remembered one of my dearest friends told me he was working on the roof of the towers the night before
I remembered all the friends and family I knew working on wall street
I remembered thinking of all the friends and family who were firemen being called to duty as the fire alarms rang in the streets
I remembered I loved them all
I remember seeing some come home covered from head to toe in ash
I remember finding out who was alive
I remember Fighter planes darting over my home for hours
I remember most of all
Ray York and I laughing in the Dolly Bar
Rich Allen filming Q-south at the Lion's Den
I remember
performing with Chris from "Riboflavin D" on a demo tape for his band
There were many more memories of faces and names of people I knew or my friends who knew someone else.
But all I can do is Remember....and say this so that They are never forgotten....Love each-other now...don't wait....
with all of your soul.....Walker
BupBro, yes I did. Good memory. I gave blood the next day after 9/11 (all I could do) and got "the letter" two weeks later.
GET TESTED / GET TREATED
One in 50 people in USA have Hep C, over 4 million Americans. It is over twice the extent of the AIDS plague in USA.
I hope I stay "cured" so I can be an inspiration or motivation for those afraid of treatment. It is tough, but IT IS doable. If wussy me can do it, anyone can.
Me too Bird....I remember when it happened.
And if memory serves, didn't you find out about the Hep C when you went to give blood for 9/11 victims? Trying to help out?
Prayers to the victims both those working in the tower and those brave souls that ran inside to help them. I remember calling the McIntyre's, a good Irish family from NJ with 3 sons. One of which I went to high school with, two fire fighters and a cop. Found out they were all on the way to the second tower when it collapsed and I remember feeling so guilty that I was releived that my freinds were safe when so many others died. As it turns out at least one of them is suffering with respitory issues from the incident. If nothing else we need to advocate for funds to help those that are now suffering. 125 million in funds from the Federal government is a joke. write your congressman/woman and tell them what a travesty that is. Stop the pork barrel bulls%^t politics and put the money where it is really needed.
I am sorry for your loss Tony..
... and I miss him greatly....
I remember life and death for a couple of reasons on this day. Until two years ago, this day was a Holy day of remembrance for warriors who didn't know they were warriors until the end.
Two years ago I was at my sons deathbed in a trauma center. He was pre enlisted to go into the Navy in 6 months, so he was a warrior also.
To everyone today, remember and embrace life.
On 9/11/01, I was on the George Washington bridge in traffic going to an interview in the city when the first tower collapsed. It is a vision I will never forget. I was listening to 1010 Wins and they were interviewing a woman downtown when she began screaming. I turned south toward the Towers and saw 2 WTC go down. Insanity that day. Went into Manhattan, crossed into the bronx and back tracked back home. Went down to the city the next day to try and volunteer but they were turning people away because of so many people trying to help. I will never forget the smell of gas fuel, smoke and dust. I was at least 20 blocks from the WTC but the smell was as if I was around the corner. The next few weeks in NYC was probably an experience and vibe that will never be replecated. I have never felt so much love and closeness to every person I ran into in NYC in my life. It truely was amazing.
To all the men and women who persihed that day, and to everyone who lived through that day,I salute you and send positive vibes to all families invloved. Peace.
thanks Dave...I just think we need to remember this day forever..
*but i do believe the best way to honor those victims of 9/11 and to honor and thank the many brave men and women that have sacrificed for our country is to keep living...to embrace and be grateful for the freedoms we have, due in part to thier sacrifices..*~Lefty Collins
Lefty, I salute you for those sentiments. They are perfect.
My 9/11 memories very similar to those of EZM....It was a Tuesday morning, two days earlier we had laid to rest my grandmother, I had been her primary caregiver for over 20 years, my mind was preoccupied with taking care of her affairs. When the reality of the attack became clear, my mind went to the people here. I was just getting to know the family here, didn't have a grasp of who lived exactly where, just knew a bunch of us lived "up there--somewhere." Didn't know the Long Island/NYC folk from the Philadelphia/New Jersey/Atlantic City/Conn. people. Just knew some of us were in trouble. Remember spending much of the day, and into the night waiting for people to check in. That was what I remembered watching the news this morning.
Y'all take care.
