I got to see one of my all time bass heroes last night for the first time, tje king of NOLA funk, George Porter, Jr, with PBS (Porter, Batiste, & Stoltz) at Bragg Jam 2006 in Macon. Set up right by the stage was the Hittin' the Note roadshow. On hand were Joe Bell and his lovely bride, Willie Howard from Mayberyetta, and the incomparable tour mystic, Kirk West. Needless to say, Mr. Porter can certainly funkify one's life-it was a great show! Oteil :egypt: even dropped by the HTN tent, and was warmly greeted by George from the stage. Brother Goliath and Miss Elf were there too, and they saw Oteil later that evening at another of the Bragg Jam venues-alas, it was too far past my bedtime!:-(
Love to all,
Byard
I'm a little late joining in, but I have to add my 2 cents to all the comments re: the MSG show last night. Clapton is a great guitar player..ditto Doyle and Robert Cray, BUT Derek is in a class all by himself. I know it's not a competition, I love all good music, but it was almost embarrassing how good he was. Can't wait til the next time. :guitarist:
Hey Carol
Blue Rodeo is a Canadian band.have not heard of them of late, hope they are still playing music and writing music.
Only 90 in PG huh? A regular cold front must have come down from English Bay.

But alas, Terrapin Rye didn't get its props.
What great lyrics...what a great songwriter/singer. A song I heard for the first time today. On the Oxford American CD.
Could've used it back in 1981.
Remembering Townes.
Nothin by Townes Van Zandt
Hey mama, when you leave
don't leave a thing behind
I don't want nothin'
I can't use nothin'
Take care into the hall
and if you see my friends
tell them I'm fine
not using nothin'
Almost burned out my eyes
threw my ears down to the floor
I didn't see nothin'
I didn't hear nothin'
I stood there like a block of stone
knowin' all I had to know
and nothin' more
man, that's nothin'
As brothers our troubles are
locked in each others arms
and you better pray
they never find you
Your back ain't strong enough
for burdens doublefold
they'd crush you down
down into nothin'
Being born is going blind
and buying down a thousand times
to echoes strung
on pure temptation
Sorrow and solitude
these are the precious things
and the only words
that are worth rememberin'
>> Its like I have to try and figure out H&M...to much work. >>
Hemlock, I'm no Mule fool and I understand some of your sense of things, but H&M is worth the time to figure out.
I moved my longer response to the Any Thing Goes thread called High and Mighty.
Thanks for the concert call last night Helen...
To bad you won't have to call me from the shows next weekend !!!
Hopefully, after MRmilas great success in CT, he will franchise his Peachy cafe to all corners of this great Country! I just love the sound of his menu!

Howdy :cowboy:! Love to you and your ladies...heard 4 days in May at our Hootenany last thursday!
apparently, our Canadian Brothers and Sisters guitar-slinging Snowbirds dont care that the temps have plummeted to 90 here in good Ol Punta Gorda. They have migrated back down in full force..God bless them!
Just wondering, is that Blue band /song of Candian decent?
also, a very rousing version of Oh Canada! love it, with the driving ocean breeze, and the enthusiastic crowd, felt like I was at an outdoor Hockey game .
feeling esp Peachy, sold 2 trucks in 2 days, and frankly, the only 2 vehicles we had 4 sale. We get to eat this week, yehaw!

Oh jeez Carol was that last night? I've been in that restaurant before after many a Double Door show. I hope thay don't remember me ...
Happy Sunday morning to all! If you are really bored, go to the Forum, AG and Vote on which wheel you like best on an early 70's Firebird (factory Honeycomb vs Rallye) via photos of one I have.
It must have been the night for restaurant closings.
We lost a restaurant icon in Charlotte last night because they lost their lease. For 45 years the Athens Restaurant had been open 24 hours every day. This was conveniently located down the street from the Double Door Inn and a fun place to watch people at 3:00am . The older ladies that worked there didnt let it phase them. They just kept the coffee flowing and the orders coming out of the kitchen...but oh the stories that they could tell of the sights they have seen in the wee hours of the morning.
Hopefully they will find another location (with a larger parking lot)and they will continue their tradition of feeding us in the wee hours of the morning. (No Waffle House close to that location!)
Sounds like the grist for a good blues tune, Lefthander.
I can't get my good thai food anymore
Last night they closed the door
Oh Lawd have mercy .....
good morning all....had a very unique night last night..got to go with Pete Vancura, Ellen, Suzanne and her kids and Pete's brother jason ( many of you know these LCNMB band family folks) to the last night of our favorite Thai restaraunt in Bridgeview, IL...they are moving back home to Thailand and we have eaten there for some time..during the final month people were turned away every day because there was simply no room..but they made room for us last night...we stuffed ourselves and had a great time with the staff..we were the among the last group of customers and the fun was tinged with some sadness as we have never found such good Thai food anywhere..never bben in a restaraunt as they closed thier doors for the final time...really going to miss that place..
I love it!! Derek Trucks!!! The future is here today! :smokinsmiley::dance::smokinsmiley::dance1::smokinsmiley::dance::bike::bike::waving::waving::crowd:
Good ol Sunday morning ya'll
highlight last night at The Garden was Derek's solo in Li'l Queen of Spades. As the lead built the crowd began to yell ,scream and stand in total adulation for Derek. In that moment he grabbed the 20,000 who filled The Garden and didn't let go for the rest of the evening. Beacon tickets are going to get even more difficult next March to secure than they were this year.
