Just popped in to see what was new and I see that not much has changed. Wondering if our dear friend Willie Howard will be making it up to the Beacon and looking forward to seeing my dear family again very, very soon. EAPFP, Lizzie

EddieP. The here and now is what we have to work with. Grateful that this band is still playing and playing at such a very high level. Everybody enjoy the Beacon run, Wannee, and I hope to see you at Red Rocks. Theres a thread on the forum for the Bill Ector medical fund, please give if you can.

Great post as usual Eddie! Yesterday was the first time I've even looked at this site in quite a while for some of the reasons you mentioned. Kind of a downer. But I sure am looking forward to the Beacon coming up! Won't be the same as last year. Or the year before that. Or.... But that's the way it should be IMO. Things never seem to stay static. Nothing wrong with that! Gonna be good music, good people and good times. Let March Madness begin! See some of y'all soon. 🙂 :koolaid: :koolaid:

Eddie, I think you missed the point completely. These posts were not negative or critical. But you seem to be mad at anyone posting anything except what you think you know. It's all good so there is no reason to attack the different viewpoints. spdb

well guess what boys and girls? things ain't NEVER gonna be the way they used to be for this band, so you can either embrace what we are blessed and fortunate to have today, or be left thinking about the past, ignoring the present.

I admire your enthusiam too Brent...but I most definitely do "get it" my friend, lots of us do and we are thankful for that. I don't...and will not get caught up in these sometimes heated guest book discussions anymore so I will be moving on now. I just needed to state my support for the current band and our great fan base, many of whom I call my friends. They really are a great bunch of folks and they love what they are hearing...right here, right now. Peace

Well RD and RT - Maybe the brotherhood is dead inside the band, but it is alive and well with us (some of us at least). Case in point - Bill Ector. Don't know many other places where strangers are willing to part with that all important commodity ($$) simply because a person needs help. Even if it is 10 bucks - it is now, like it was then, about supporting a "brother". that ain't bad a bad legacy for any of the band members. Like it or not, we are ALL getting concerned about the golden years not turning into rust. As we all realize our 50's are our "primary earning years (at the risk of sounding a little like a financial advisor) and we need to take advantage of that to the best of our ability. why the hell should that be any different for the members of the band. If your waiting on our government to cover your a$$ you are in deep you know what.

EddieP, while I admire your enthusiasm, you don't get it. This is not a 'negative' post, just my observation. Read Reddog's post. spdb

I don't know about any of this stuff I just read in the past few pages...and I don't care about any of that kind of negativity from a couple of the recent posts I read. There are a few people that always seem to be under a gray cloud for whatever reason and try to spread that negativity to rest of us. All I know is when Beacon time comes around see plenty of smiling faces in the crowd and on the stage...and when I see lots of hugs being exchanged at the pre-show jams and parties I know The Brotherhood is alive and well. This isn't 1971 anymore guys, we ALL know that and don't need to be reminded constantly by a couple of you. The fact that we still have this music and this community to embrace, to love and to call our own, means a lot to many of us including myself. The band is playing great and having fun and we are still along for the ride and it still feels damn good. When I am at a show and I hear the first notes of "Dreams", "Whipping Post", "Desdemona" or countless other brilliant songs, I know I am right where I want to be ...and I don't care about any other time or any other place and I certainly don't care about how much money the band makes or anyone else for that matter. IT goes much deeper than that. It is about right here and right now, not 35 years ago. It doesn't mean we have forgotten the past or don't acknowledge it - of course we do. Why must a few of you always try to rain on our parade? Regardless of the naysayers, Thousands of us will all be at The Beacon Theatre as usual having a blast...and and we will have formed new friendships and cemented old friendships because of it. The Allman Brothers Band remains a BIG part of our lives and we are going to savor the moments as long as we can because it means that much to many of us. Keep on spewing negativity if thats all you know, but we will continue on our merry way, loving and embracing and enjoying the best music being played anywhere, anytime. If you don't want to support these guys, fine but don't expect the majority of us to follow in your negative little footsteps...we will keep on supporting and doing whatever is necessary to keep the spirit alive as long as possible. The band is certainly holding up their end of the deal by delivering the goods night after night. Peace always ...see you on 74th and Broadway real soon!

Interesting chatter here about the band. Me I have to say that the last few years the music has been sensational. The last few years with Dickey I felt the band was missing something, Derek brought a new directions as did Warren, but I felt Dickey was taking the band in a "country"direction. Yes I do miss Dickey, he had a presence that is un-matched and definitly could work a crowd. But when it comes dowen to it is all about the music. The true test will be the next C.D release.

Funny thing is if you are under about 40 years old you probably dont really remember what hard times are. I am really interested to see how America would handle it if 1929 happened again! But wait - thats right - it can't - the govt is looking out for us!

The spirit of the Allman Brothers Band is dead. As you stated Rick, that is a fact. We used to do a lot of free gigs just for the fun of playing. If we did not have a booked gig then we made one up, and played for the people. In the early, early days. We did not have gigs so for something to do, we were going steer crazy, and board, played in Piedmont park. That is when the Allmans were born. I know hype says Jacksonville, but the truth being Atlanta, then New York. From the first time we played Piedmont, about 500 people were there. one week later, we came back, and played again, there were 5,000 people there. We were the peoples band. Crazy hippies running around just having a ball. Played the Fillmore east and bingo we captured the city and to show the people what the band was made of we played all night. No extra money. I mean when they opened the doors the sun was up shinning bright. Hurt your eyes right at first. No extra money for the gig, just for the pleasure of playing for the people. It a gift when the people except you instead of a lot of hype pushing a band just for the money, hell now days, most bands are really not exploring the music. Now money is the prime goal. Just look at all the old self recording by the people that are being sold for profit. Same old songs, Playing is a little different, still nothing new. I mean how many times can the band management's put out Lizzy. If not for profit then I don't know what to call it. It sure ant for the people. All that talk is lame. Weather its politics or music, Just like the word family is way over used. Now there are more hands in the pot than there were when Dickie was there. That is a fact. The music is not even close, good and sustaining, but not like the fire Betts added to the mix.

Hey BLD, That acoustic stuff was terrific. Dickey really smoked on those sets. They ran a bit long (for those who didn't like them), which slowed the momentum somewhat, but I really enjoyed them. Mitch

Here is hoping Gregg and Warren came up with some killer new stuff at the recent get together and the band put it all together. Hopefully we get to hear some of it soon and a new CD gets cut and out for XMAS.

Exactly Lefty - can't wait to see you and the band in NYC!! I have my tickets!! Daylight savings time returns March 11!! If a reunion does occur, which I personally don't believe ever will, how about an acoustic tour - one of my favorite shows is from the early 90's - an acoustic benefit show with Gregg, Dickey, Woody and Warren - I just love it - its so sweet.
