Have you ever seen a bird trying to catch a butterfly in flight? Hard for the bird to pull this off as the butterfly can make a sharper turn than the bird can. At the last minute the butterfly make a right or left turn and the bird flies by. Even a slow moving butterfly has a defense to get away from the fast moving bird.
Butch,
Thank you much for your response. I apologize for making assumptions. Bad move.
On the Hep C and what I meant...
The key points of confusion mentioned:
Viral response (undetectable) is a key indicator. A response within the first 4-8 weeks is an indicator of success. Docs will continue to monitor viral level every, say, three months during TX. It is unusual to go undetectable early and then test positive while on meds. So typically one (IF clear early on) is then clear all of TX.
The big hurdle (if undie during TX), is the three month post TX test. It is HUGE. Almost ALL relapses occur during this time.
What was said back when that worried me, was not so much Gregg being misinformed (I'm sure he is not) but some of the instant fan reaction where people took the comments as Gregg is cured.
Cured, or as some say "sustained response" is something doctors start indicating a year, two years, or more post TX. If you are clear 1 year post TX, you are in a 98-99% success category.
My doc said I coud "start" getting cocky when clear a year.
The second confusing thing was the "reducing dosage" comment, Really that area is none of my business. It is between Gregg and his doctor. My only comment is that to anyone who has done TX, that is a never heard TX approach. Because of the relapse nature of things, the typical is full dose to the bitter end. Beyond saying that, I will leave it at that, as it is a private thing.
Butch, sorry on my, ummm, passion about awareness..... One if fifty in USA have this thing, 4 million Americans, 1 in 10 it will be fatal. 9 in 10 live or suffer with it. It is a part of the music biz as much as anythin, maybe more.
Butch, thank you again very much for the band and your concern of this huge issue and God be with Gregg in his success 🙂
Also, back to the TX: It is successful in clearing, curing the virus in approximately 50% of people who do the 24 or 48 week regime. It took me two tries, I had the high viral level problem the Wickepedia article you posted mentioned.
Two years post TX and fine, and tell Gregg that is a fine feeling to look forward to. Also that he will feel better as time progresses. Hep C has an effect on clarity, energy level and overall welll being. He will be surprised in the changes over the next year or two as good health starts setting back in 🙂
Hey Gang Good Morning:cool:

Weekend Outage: We're back after a 36 hour unplanned outage. The company hosting our dedicated server, The Planet, had a power transformer explode taking out three walls of the electrical equipment room and a bunch of gear. They worked non-stop to obtain and install replacement equipment and we're now back. 9000 servers were affected but fortunately the only damage was to the electrical power source, not the servers themselves. Sorry for the outage but hope y'all enjoyed the weekend!
Michael, I think many of us were having withdrawals...
We're back! :bounce:
OK, I am now a 30s something and fell in love with the Allman Brothers in college in the 90s. I first saw them twith Warren and Woody at the Memphis Music Festival and (was on some good stuff) and immediately started buying cds. I think they have been a great band all the way through their history. Now doubt, the original lineup was the best... but it was the warren/woody line up the led me to the original.
So anyways, guess that I am saying that I just love the music and wish Gregg the best in his battle....
All the arguing about Dickie is really not constructive, it seems to me
Butch, thanks for stopping in to the GB and communicating with us. Much appreciated.
Hope everyone's havin' a good weekend!
Hey I'd like to second jpfudd. Butch thanks for dropping by and chatting with the fans especially when some aren't so nice.
Hey Mr. Trucks... I just wanted to say it's awesome that you stopped by, regardless of the circumstances! I really appreciate your honest communication with the fans. Feel free to do so anytime 🙂

Very nice to come here and do what you did Butch...i think the actions speak for themselves...
to anyone suffering form this disease, you have my thoughts and prayers..
Butch,
First I want to thank you for responding and showing some of your research. If you ever need to research anything about the HCV please come to our thread.
As you know everyone has motives. Will this Dr. benefit by treating Gregg or could it be a friend of his that is not a true specialist.
So here are questions you should ask just so you are aware and Gregg should know too.
Gregg per research would likely have genotype 1A or 1B.
If so 48 weeks of treatment minimum.
If the tx is any less it is usually due to the patient failing (tx not working the way it needs to or the side effects are rough). I ended up in the hospital and the meds weren't sequestering the virus.
The next question the doctor would need to answer for you is what are Gregg's numbers. Specifically the viral loads at usually 4, 8, 12, 16 and 24 weeks.
If they do not follow the standard of practice meaning the log drops and/ or showing no more virus in the blood, then tx is stopped at about 24 weeks. You are considered a non-responder.
If you have cirrhosis in addition to the HCV, hello, then the odds of responding to treatment are even less.
If Gregg is a genotype 2 or 3 then the Dr. may be factual. If this is the case Gregg would be damm lucky, and I mean that!!!!!
You are not obligated to answer us on any matter but for your benefit, Gregg's, and the band's as a whole, it would be wise to know all this information. Then if needed you will understand what the future will hold and press release accordingly.
My best to you also. Have Bert do the work, he can take the heat, it's his job. I'm teasing here, I love Bert, just jerking his chain.
Again thank you and my best to all.
Hilarie
If needed there is a drug coming out in 2 years approx. that will be the 3rd drug. Studies are outstanding. It's name will be Telaprevir, and it will be given along with the same tx Gregg is on now, and is being called a CURE. Tx will be for 24 weeks and after week 4 they are stating there will be no detectable virus. Now that is what some of us need. Myself being one.
What Dave said! 🙂
