I love you guys. I really do.
But make no mistake. Gov't Mule with Andy and Danny are doing great and the audiences have swelled exponentially throughout the country since Andy has joined the band. I know. I've watched them since October 2001 when Oteil and Chuck played Roseland in NYC. I was at the Deepest End concert. I saw the drop in attendance after that and I have seen the resurgence since DEja Voodoo all over the country. The West coast, CA in particlar, and perhaps Texas and New Mexico are areas where they can focus on, but every single house so far this tour has been quite filled. So don't think that there is a large contingent of people who don't like the band since Andy joined. In fact the opposite is true. The band has become much more accessible to people and the growth in the female fan base is proof enough to me alone.
If all you like is the old stuff, then certainly, you have years of recordings to continue to listen to. No worries.
As for Andy Hess, he left John Scofield's band to play for the Mule. Scofield doesn't look like he likes just anybody.
I saw Hess, Scofield, Stanton Moore and John Medeski at a Christmas Jam a few years ago and was blown away. It's too bad that Scofield doesn't allow digital downloads cause that show was all I needed to know that Andy can stand up to and exceed the talents of most bass players in both the rock and jazz worlds.
You should try to get your hands on it. If those guys toured today, they would sell out houses all over the country.
