I'm a much bigger Warren Haynes fan than I am Gov't Mule fan.
I probably saw the original mule 7 times including their 2nd ever show at the Super Jam in Athens (great, great day of music). There is music from the original lineup I like, but live it was too bombastic and dark for me (that's coming from someone who used to love but still appreciates classic Iron Maiden, Priest, Sabbath).
I honestly like the Mule when it is four or more people on stage. Warren is so great in large ensembles. My favorite Mule show ever was the one with Oteil on bass and Chuck L on keyboards at the Tabernacle.
The download of Mule from Bonnaroo 07 is a classic and one I'll listen to. I still like to catch them from time to time, particuarly when there will be guests (Chris Robinson & Gregg Allman sitting in with them at the Tabernacle a few years ago for example).
