As a guy that's been in radio for 10 years now, here is my .02. Radio has changed by leaps and bounds in the last few years. It's all about cutting costs and making money. Technology allows the big guys like Clear Channel, INfinity, and Cumulus to have one jock doing 4 or 5 or more shows on different stations across the country. We jocks get just as tired of playing the same old songs over and over. 99% of the requests we get though are for the tried and true tunes like Freebird, and Whipping Post. The reason we keep playing them is that it works. There are very few radio stations that will go out on a limb to break new music these days. There is simply too much $$$ at stake. You guys on this board are a little more educated and passionate about your music than the average Joe riding in his car. Thank God for stations like the ones ya'll have listed and for a station like KGSR in Austin. Radio will never get back to the free form days. Playing the hits isn't terribly exciting, but it works. The big companies are all run by bean counters and stockholders....not radio guys. It's sad. But...Clear Channel signs my checks and they ain't bouncing ....yet.
