I'm no musician, and I may not get this exactly right....sometimes I listen to Brothers stuff with a guy that's trying to learn the nuances, especially on B-3.
We try to pay attention to Gregg as part of the band. Same Thing is an excellent example, also Rockin Horse.
There are times, often at the end or beginnings of guitar solos, when it falls to him to keep the rhythm tight.

It's there throughout Allman Brothers music from the beginning, probably the one fundamental thing that sets them apart. Sometimes it's Butch, sometimes it's the bass player, often rhythm guitar. Someone is designated to keep the rhythm at certain transition points in a song. I've been noticing it a lot from Gregg, when I pay attention.
