wow 2x.
Sheep I was at the Maritime gig in '98.
it was the very first time me and my friends from San Fran had ever seen Derek.
he was outstanding to say the least and the rest is history - 'nuff said on that one.
the whole jazz drummer thing I was trying to either ignore or leave out but it goes to another place and another list of names to - did somebody say Chico Hamilton ??
but Max Roach was "the man" and it is probably no surprise that he is a Yuge influence in our man Jaimoe - if you go listen it is right there.......and I mean it is right there.
listen to some Sea Level to isolate the sound of Jai and compare.
Mitch Michell was one of my first influences and was a jazz drummer who could push Jimi around the room if he wanted to - he had those "go ahead" type fills and major snare chops that helped define Jimi's sound.
....hate to be so brutally honest but when Jimi passed the pipe to Buddy Miles it was a frickin' joke......awful drumming IMHO.
Billy K alone with the Grateful Dead was a tasty meal and a pleasure and a champ.......
Mickey was never quite sure where "it" was - couldn't find the "one" = he had a hard time playing straight = critical, absolutely critical and he could not do it.
