On the drummers thread--I saw Jeff Sipe listed. Great choice. Some other scary monsters--just in Atlanta--Marcus Williams ( who was in Sipe's wedding), and Little John Roberts. Little John was one of the guys that rotated in and out of ARU (along with Sean O'Rourke--another monster) after Sipe, and Marcus played with Col Bruce Hampton and the Fiji Mariners. He also used to record with folks like Peabo Bryson and other cool R&B acts in the 80's. Marcus is one of the scariest, most ridiculously talented drummers I've ever seen.
He also happens to be on my latest project in the works, "Sin Palabras" (which is Spanish for "without words"), Tomas Ramirez' soon to be completed cd.
Another guy that's a martian is this cat from India named Trilok Gurtu, who plays this weird hybrid traps/percussion type instrument. He used to play with John McLaughlin. He also has some solo artist cds w/people like John Abercrombie, Jonas Hellborg, Don Cherry--you know-lightweights (lol)--kind of a mix of jazz and Indian music.
