Hey now -
Many thanks to Bo Emerson of the Atlanta Journal Constitution for his fine article on Allman Brothers Fans then and now. It was thrilling to see it on the front page of the paper, section A, page 1!
Bo did a very good job of researching the story and I was very pleased to have been of assistance. There were, however, some errors in fact. I specifically stated a few items that were misrepresented, inadvertently I'm sure.
Bo knew I quit playing bassoon in 1966 in order to take calculus my senior year in High School, so it was misleading to say I was a bassoon-playing student of Industrial Management at Georgia Tech in 1969. Besides, I was a Math major in 1969 and later transferred to Management Science -- not Industrial Management. Bo took notes on that, I'm sure, since we discussed it extensively.
But the worst transgression is when Bo stated I published Hittin' the Note. I made very clear to him that I am Founding Editor. He had Bill Ector's business card showing Bill was publisher and had talked to Bill on the phone, so I'm not sure how he could have made that mistake. On the other hand, I am delighted that Hittin' the Note got exposure on front page of the AJC!
It is my fault that I sent Bo too many photos of me from 35 years ago! The one they used, of course, is the one that made me look the worst! That picture is from when I was working on a hog farm and it was taken after a hard day of manual labor on a blustery afternoon. Geico cave man, indeed!
Check the Fans section of the Media Gallery and you will see the original of that photo plus another shot that is a little more representative.
Despite the minor errors, I am pleased and gratified that Bo did such a thorough job on the story and that it ended up on the front page.
Oh, I woke up this morning
With my face on page one.
Well, I woke up this morning
With my face on page one.
I started out an
Allman Brothers fan
And ended up a
Geico cave man
Oh lord, what have I done,
What have I gone and done!
