WHAT a day in the park! The crowd was a little large for those who appreciate more intimate venues. Tough to spot fellow peach heads (the purists!) in a big crowd - needles in a large haystack, we were. I did see, chat with and hug many of the folks I've come to know and love over the past few years - too many to name right here, as a matter of fact. I did miss seeing Sue (Musichick3), her husband, Chris (I've gotta meet ya soon, bro!) and Niki (if she made the trip). From the voice mail I got (my cel-skills are lacking - forgive me all!), I understand that Sue has had a knee injury that put her in a wheelchair for the afternoon. I admire her gumption for refusing to miss the Allman Brother's Band at Piedmont Park! Sue, I looked around the area where you said you'd be "parked" to no avail. Please forgive me for not finding you! The only consistant gripe that I heard out of the concertgoers pertained to the shortage of beer-lines and porta potties. I've maintained all along that there should be one line for both - dispense and re-fill in one line (just don't get the ends mixed up!). Personally, I have only one complaint. I now understand why the rules on the tickets mandated that no weaponry would be allowed. If I had a rocket launcher, that FUGGIN' RED HELICOPTER WOULD'VE BEEN DOWNED AFTER THE FIRST FEW NOTES OF MUSIC!!!! Seriously - what the hell was up with the red chopper? If there were a fine for insufficient muffler on an aircraft, this whirly-bird should've been ticketed and towed! Of the four helicopters noticable (including one with a camera jibe) - this was the most prevalant and annoying. The red copter circled the park area endlessly during the ABB's set. Each new orbit came in a tighter area and lower altitude. The noise produced by the helicopter's engines competed (on a winning level) with the sound system at the park. At one point, I tried to recruit the park goers into creating a "human message" (a la a marching band at a football game) that would read, "PLEASE GET THE FUGG AWAY!!!! YOU'RE RUINING THE MUSIC!!!" But alas, nobody was interested. Donna and I spent this morning in the company of Mr. Patrick Crenshaw, who took us to a music brunch and tour of Decatur. Thanks, Patrick! So, I suppose this brings to an end the 2007 edition of the Allman Brother's Band. Thanks Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe, Warrrren, Derek, Oteil and Marc for another wonderful year of music! And if you feel the need to play one more gig, might I recommend and suggest the town where Oteil lives! 😉
