In May of 1969, the Allman Brothers Band drove up from Macon to Atlanta on a Sunday afternoon, set up their gear on the stone steps in Piedmont Park, and played a free show for the lucky few in attendance. That day they paved a road that still goes on forever, as they now prepare to return on September 8, 2007 for a concert at the Park with Dave Matthews Band for 50,000 appreciative fans. The first issue of Hittin' the Note featured part of a lengthy tome on those early hippie days in Atlanta, and we are proud to present that first intallment, written beautifully by John Ogden, on those heady times of free music, great events and vast changes – politically, socially and musically. Enjoy this feature called First There Is a Mountain, and get ready for the show! You can read it by going to: www.HittintheNote .com JNB
