Hey Billy, I left a little piece of my heart down in Alabama. Y'all take care of it now ya hear? I'd like say a few things about Warren. First of all I'm real proud of him. He's a fellow tarheel and we're the same age! I believe I saw his band Richocet in Charlotte during the late 70's, but to be honest I can't remember. As "picker myself" like so many others here on the GB although i'm more of a nose picker than guitar picker. Just to be able to jam with the ABB would literally be a dream come true. How 'bout it Goliath or SPDB? But Warren has helped resurect the band twice. His contributions as a songwriter and guitar player helped fuel the comeback in '89 that we are are still enjoying today. Warren had a huge hand in bringing younger fans into the fold like say Great Scott and Marley to join the ranks of the elder statesmen we have around here like say Gerald. And I don't mean to exclude any of the great girls we have here. Cause I love women and the name of the album was/is Brothers "and" Sisters. Speaking of sisters, if not for Warren, we might not have Sarah E or Emily B. in the ranks. Because folks there really wasn't anyone else who could have kept the Brotherhood alive after Bro. Dickey was booted from the band. As for Warrens playing he may not have the technique of a Herring, the lyricalness (?) of a Pearson, the melodic sensability of a Betts etc, etc, ad infinitum, but he always comes to play and always pleases. It isn't like he's not skeered. It is like he truely enjoys making music with whoever. Be it the Brothers, Phil & Friends, the Mule whoever. Throughout the mudslinging in this most recent chapter of ABB history, Warren has maintained his integrity as a person by keeping friends with both Dickey and the band. And as for touring with 3 distinct bands and being the major contributor in all and keeping the music valid, folks it just doesn't happen. I know of nobody else today or in the past who has accomplished something like this. And it doesn't appear an ego driven thing either. If Warren is a take charge kind of guy, it appears more from the standpoint of "well if y'all gonna just stand around watching. we got to get this show on the road." Derek deserves all the kudos he gets here and anywhere else, but Warren is the man! I remember in B-ham. While Derek was was scorching a phenominal slide solo (I believe it was during the HCM intro though I could be wrong) Warren was frozen on stage, hands out to his side, eyes closed, listening intently to every note every inflection Derek was playing. A lesser man i.e. myself would have pissed in his pants. But when his time came, Warren just used all his God given talents, not in a competing way but a contributing way, to build upon what Derek did to hit-the-note to take the audience to the pinacle of musical extasy. And he and the Allman Brothers Band try to do so and succeed more often than not every time they play. Warren for all you do this bud is for you, brother! Peace y'all.
