From a selfish perspective, I'm kinda glad that commercial radio these days is a wasteland. The result is that the music I tend to like rarely becomes popular. This means I can still see a lot of my favorite bands in small venues (like the Beacon!) and, in many cases (though not all), for fairly reasonable prices. Unfortunately, this lack of popularity keeps these bands from earning the financial rewards they deserve, but most of them aren't in it for the money anyway, at least not entirely. Ideally, a balance can be achieved where the musicians earn a decent living withoug the fans paying through the nose. So let the radio conglomerates keep promoting the Britneys, the N'Sync's, the Aguilera's, etc......that's why we have cd and tape players.
