ABB - Memphis TN

Great time.
Huffy, who went to B-ham, drove home, slept 3-4 hours, got in the car, drove up to my house in Pontotoc, Arrived around 2pm here and we watched a bit of football and checked to make sure we had everything we needed for the journey to the bluff city.
On hwy 78, we played cat and mouse with some show trading buddies of mine from Tupelo MS.
Arrived in Memphis around 4:30 or 5 or so. Made the long walk across the breeze way to Mud Island.
Security lady/person wouldn't let us in, because we didn't have production passes. We look down the hill and spot Joe, Dereks tech and yell to him. He tells us to come on down the hill(actually wants us to just roll down the hill, not take the elevator.....right Joe...we are not the entertainment for the night!)
We get down to Bus row right on the mighty Mississippi and hang with Joe and some others from Ohio. Joe gets up and says, hey, you guys want some new stickers...yeah!!!) So he goes and gets me an Huff about 10 stickers each and the poster for the New CD!!!! Thanks again. He then tells us to just go on in, so we do.
We get inside the venue from Stage left and no one is there but Event Staff and as they are called in the south....Bouncers. We get to setting up and then about 10 bouncers converge on us to ask how we got in. Well, we walked right in beside you. We told them Joe let us in and they were cool. Just wanted to make sure we had tickets and were in the correct seats. Kirk West came up and chatted with us for a moment and said we scared those guards. Anyway, all was a-okay from that point on.
We set up and dropped our bulk gear off with Marty at the soundboard, thanks Marty!!!! 🙂 About that time, Cari Jayne yelled at me and came running over. We talked for a few and then she introduced me to DTB show collecting guru, Nick Graham. Have traded and e-mailed Nick many, many, many times since 99, but this was our first time meeting up. Couple of buddies of mine from Phishhook were setup right behind us.
Derek and company came on and they just smoke every time they play. The entire crowd loved them. A great show right on the banks of the river. Wind blowing. Just a perfect evening with the perfect band. Temps were around 65 to 70 at that time and you couldn't ask for clearer skies on a rain drenched weekend.
Mark Q sat in as well. It was also Kofi's birthday, so Happy Birthday Ko-man!!!
part II coming later,
hopefully
got to go take care of some stuff.
