Now, befoe it gets too far back in time - here's some more thoughts on Saturday's Oak Mountain show... DTB opener - more of what I've come to expect - tight, fun, amazing (must be a fan...) Marc sat in again, like at Salem, but this time up front. He had a precussion solo that he really got into, had Derek and company looking at each other with a sort of good natured "when's he gonna be done!" It's been said before, but Derek...how do you describe it? He get's you high, hits the note, or whatever - it's the whole thing for me, the sound foremost, but the personality shines thru - it's like the music pulls you into itself instead of simply going out to you... ABB highlights - little Astrid was there again on the drums with Grandpa Butch, like in Atlanta... Around the time of Done Somebody Wrong, I noticed Oteil really grooving with it all - in Salem he looked kinda tired... Woman Across The River - how could so many be sitting during this!!! At the end of Derek's magnificant solo (no slide either), you should have seen the grin on his face - sort of like he knew he took us "there" and back again. Soul Shine - ho-hum, how predictable, another amazing kick-ass presentation, just like always... Hoochie Coochie Man - Wow! extended guitar only gifts from Warren and Derek, then the thunder of the bass and percussion kicked us into it - "Don't fight it, you'll lose, like a mighty rip tide!" Rocking Horse - Oh my God, I'm too close to the stage - Warren and Derek are gonna spontaneously combust! Random musings - felt like a "Derek" night to me, but not complaining about Warren...lot's of youngsters getting into it - like Raleigh, I wonder if it's a Saturday night kind of thing? Definately a great show - maybe not the best I saw this summer (that would be Raleigh or Salem)...but I'd make a trip like that again!
