Health insurance: I use an HSA. Not the best of worlds, but something I can handle these days....went 35 years with no insurance. Never saw a doctor either, just not an option. Lots of prayer. My HSA (Health Savings Account) works like this: $5000 deductible (ouch) Max $3 million (good). Premium $1100 quarterly, goes up every year. Also requires $75 a quarter be deposited to a savings acct. paying 4%. Everything is tax deductible. You can put up to the deductible ($5000) in the savings acct., and get a tax deduction for it, plus no taxes due on the earnings. Any withdrawals from the acct. are tax free, as long as they go to medical expenses, whether they are prescription drugs, office calls, etc. Office calls, tests count toward the annual deductible. Thus, all medical expenses are fully deductible, as are the premiums. My premiums are based on being age 59 with high blood pressure. At age 65, the savings account becomes an IRA, goes under IRA rules for taxes. Worth a look, especially for self-employed.
