Not to change the subject, but........ A few days ago, I posted about my "condition," and expressed frustration that, in my opinion, little, if any progress had been made in the quest for a cure for this cursed disease. Upon reflection, I realized that perhaps I did not more clearly articulate why I felt that way. There has been be some progress made with Childhood Leukemia being a shining example. For the most part, however, the progress has been made in earlier detection. For example, Prostate Cancer, caught early enough, is eminently curable (90%+ survival rate). Caught late (Tiger Wood's Father, Earl), it is a Death Sentence. I simply believe that our Cancer Dollars are being spent in the wrong place - given to big Drug Companies to come up with new Chemotherapy Drugs. In most cases, those new Drugs are simply knock offs of old Drugs, like "New & Improved Tide." Don't we all know that old Tide works just as well as the "New and Improved" version? Same thing with "new" Chemo drugs in most cases. Your Doctor will tell you that Chemo will kill good cells along with the Cancer Cells, but that the good Cells will come back. Well, guess what comes right back with them?? Chemotherapy is not a cure for Cancer. At best, it buys you time - at a horrible price. Ask Tom and Lisa Dodd. Me? I have to walk with a cane now because my right foot is totally numb due to Chemotherapy and this newest Chemotherapy treatment could cost me my leg. Cancer is not a generic Disease. Your wife's Breast Cancer is not the same as my Mom's and cannot be treated the same way. IMO, Genetic Research is the only hope for a "cure" for Cancer. I don't think that a nickel of Government $$$ should go to another "new and improved" Chemotherapy Drug as they are ultimately ineffective. I apologize for the length of this post or if it comes off as a "rant." Cancer is obviously a subject that hits close to home for me. If it's too late for me, I hope that Genetic Research is not too late for others.
