Responding to TOMMARS: In an open letter to Dickey Betts...and "those" very close around him: Dear Dickey, I write this letter in the hope that someone...or God can break through your denial and allow you...and your loved ones to REALLY see how dangerously close you are to being the next ABB tragedy. PERIOD :-(. Dickey if this is what you are trying to accomplish I have to say then that not only did I experience absolute embarrassment and humiliation for your very ill condition last night in Ct.- but more so my anger in that it is very selfish for one to treat a life...not to mention your GOD-given talent as part of an American legacy-with such careless abdandon! When I auditioned for the ABB in 1989 you were just coming off of several years sobriety in AA- as well as "someone very close to you.". I was sad to hear that you chose to return to the devastation of your alcohol and substance abuse nightmare. And you were very kind to me then...for a while...until you disappeared into the mists-not even recognizing me at dinner once with Donna after a show up around here. Subsequently- as everyone tip-toes around you because of your unstable condition- you have not only lost your connection to the Brother's Band- but you have also lost your dignity- except in the eyes of those who are so blinded by their own "mist"- sadly like those in the audience last night who stilled cheered you as stumbled through what I witnessed as an Live American Tragedy! 🙁 There are those around you in business who obviously because of their own selfish greed and motives are failing in the responsibility to TAKE ACTION and try and save your life. If they cared about you as a human being and NOT as their reckless ticket to their gravy train-or as a monkey in a circus- *sorry:-(.... they would IMMEDIATELY intervene- close your tour with this band/show which "RESEMBLES" the poorest Allman Brother tribute band I've ever witnessed "starring" an actual living Allman Brother *(if you call that living Betts)...and intervene to have YOU...and "some loved ones near you"enter a REHAB...before ONE of you becomes the next tragedy! Again this IS Tommy Booth- The Almost Brother- *who YOU called "always one of us back in '89" ...who saw last night a fellow sick and suffering addict/alcoholic in very ill condition. I am in Recovery now Dickey for 24 years and am willing to stick out my neck here and subject myself to all sorts of violent unattractive responses from many here who just think you're still PEACHY-keen. I am also here hoping to create a groundswell of LOVE & support from the many who DO see just how ill you...and "others close to you are"...and hopefully join in a trumpet fanfare of love to blare out in your direction...so that YOU or someone near you with integrity, compassion, *BALLS (to confront your demons)- and the clout so you WAKE UP and HEAR US- Literally! And for everyone else out there...reach out and touch Brother Dickey with your voices...and your prayers...so that he ..."and those close to him"...may get the help they need...so that out our Brother Dickey Betts may live AGAIN.
