Morning y'all. Saturday, March 31 at the Beacon...
The Jam for the Cure party was outstanding. The Sweeties, HTN and everyone else involved worked their asses off to put together THE best pre-show party I've ever been to. The food was outstanding - I saw the six foot heros and thought, well shoot, that's nice, but that was all I expected. Then came the sushi and then came the hot food. No need to go out to dinner afterwards. Those who wished to inbibe had a limitless supply and I noticed Jacquie putting away quite a few bottles of wine at the end (guess that's because I wasn't drinking my usual quota). Got to meet Randy Poe and tell him how phenomenal his book Skydog is (thanks, Bill).
The music....Wow. Lefty and Devon and friends played their asses off. Skydogsys and Sheep surprised us all. Brent (Skyponydogboy) added his voice and his guitar to the the festivities.
I gotta say, this was the best Fan Jam I'm ever seen. These boys have have had plenty of practice entertaining us and they were certainly Hittin the Note. I hope the door receipts and the auction brought in plenty on behalf of the Jam for the Cure.
Sister Rainy and her friend Pat let us use their Beacon suite to chill out between the party and the show and that was a Godsend. When everyone else was out at Yogi's or doing whatever else they were doing, I got to rest up a bit for the show.
Seats in the upper balcony were "OK" but it sure ain't the same up there - you're AT the show but you're not IN the show. Intermission gave us a chance to slip by the burly security and into the orchestra...front row, where you don't only see the musicians up close, the music is louder and more intimate, but, most importantly, you can FEEL the show...the guitar piercing your ears, the drums beating, Oteil's bass running down your spine and Gregg's sweet voice singing his heart out.
I can't say this was the best show I ever attended but it was an Allman Brothers Band concert and that's what really matters.
So special to see so many brothers and sisters I've missed - Linnie, Rainy and Pat, Willie Howard, Joe Bell, Bluedad, BDOB, Haisja, Buppalo, Dana, Mitch, Harvey, and, of course, those Sweeties. Waving to Kirk. AND, I got to meet the newly legendary Greggswoman/Mitzi and husband Virgil, and Susea. So many more...
All in all, a great day. Long live the Allman Brothers Band. Love to my brothers and sisters of the Guest Book. Truer friends could never be found...anywhere.
Looking forward to next Saturday.
