This is why I hate Disco so much, always have. It was the means by which the NYC/LA record industry regained control. Control away from Chess, Stax, Criteria, Capricorn, and even Motown. Flavor of the month indeed.
Of course there's always the distaste for the Deep South in general, as expressed in various Rolling Stone articles and elsewhere. But the public saw the value of the music and supported it. Didn't take a doorstop to validate.
