So there I was today a bit after noon flipping channels on the TV and I see this bit on the Travel Channel where they're talking about a midtown music festival, and I just assume they are talking about Midtown Manhattan. Wrong. Midtown Atlanta. Then they show the map of Georgia and they show this "music triangle" and they say next stop Macon. Now they've really got my attention. They're talking to this guy about Capricorn studios and they mention everything musically EXCEPT the Allman Brothers, and I'm thinking, "How lame is this? Isn't the ABB the biggest thing to ever come out of Macon. Then they cut to a piece with a guy sitting at a piano and it's none other than Chuck Leavell. He talks about his involvement with the ABB, they show the "Brothers & Sisters" album cover, then he plays a few snippets of Ramblin' Man and Jessica. Then there break away to another piece showing the Big House and none other than Kirk West comes moseying out the front door. They show rooms that you can visit with all the memorabilia hanging on the walls, he tells a bit of history about the big house, then about Duane & Berry. Next they show Rose Hill cemetery with shots of Duane & Berry's graves, Elizabeth Reeds grave interspersed with clips of the Duane era band playing at presumably the Fillmore and some nice clips of a young Dickey doing his thing. It was a great little piece in the middle of an hour long show. After the Macon stuff, they went to Athens and spoke with folks from a famous nightclub there (I forget the name), and they talk about Wide Spread Panic, the B-52's, Nirvana and so on. I didn't catch the whole show, and I missed most of the Atlanta music stuff, but it's something to keep an eye out for. I could only find dates for the show which just aired, and didn't see a future date, but they must repeat this at some point. Keep an eye out.
