What a great night of music we had on Saturday. It was wonderful to see some old friends from the GB, MrMilas, Pam, Sari, TerriB, NYCBarb and family, to name a few. We all took a table together at The Maple Tree, and as more folks arrived, we just kept moving tables together until we had the biggest one in the place.
The band played some great old favorites, Allman tunes and standards, and made them there own. A nod to Jr. Mack's guitar skills....he plays with all the soul of a True Brother. He did a terrific job on YDLM, playing true to the Fillmore East sound.
Best song of the night, was when the show should have been over, but the crowd would not let the band off the stage. Jaimoe asked the owner for time to do one more tune, and he reluctantly gave in. I heard someone say, "Maybe a quick Allman tune?". The fans know there is no such thing, but Jaimoe suggested Blue Sky. With that, they brought the house down by playing it, and Jr. Mack was very much up to the task of playing the guitar solos. I think we have a guest performer for one of the next nights at The Beacon.
Dave and Jaimoe played together well as Dave joined Jaimoe in the Ja (as Sari pointed out, no Bu Ma), part of IMOER. You could see the chemistry between them. Somehow they found their way back to the melody, and the crowd responded.
Great to see Matt Z. too. His voice is so unique, that he can make any song sound like it was written for him.
It was great to have breakfast at the Aurora Cafe, with Dave, Pam and Scott. All too soon, it was time to go. Can't wait for the recording.
