Man.
Oh, man.
I got some bad news today and decided to burrow into the sheets and sleep a little extra. Like 14 hours.
When I woke I was still feeling sorry for myself and started moping around. Mope, mope, mope.
Then, late at night, almost midnight, I took matters in hand and sought music. Music, the balm that heals.
For the last couple of months I've gone out every Tuesday night to see the Blues Jam at Club 29 with Donna Hopkins. The musicians and music are always exhilarating.
Tonight I was going to stay home, but something brought me out. I drove to Club 29, got there late, and still managed to get high off the music.
There are VERY few guitarists I can hear two notes from and immediately identify the player. Tonight I was sitting at the Club 29 bar and heard two notes. My brain went, "Donna!" I turned around and sure enough, she had just taken the stage.
Even better, my old friend and running buddy Tinsley Ellis was in the audience. Tinsley is Donna's mentor and it was he that turned me on to her music.
They hadn't played together in several years, but tonight he got up on stage and magic happened. Again.
So now I am delirously happy. Tomorrow I will face the bad news, refreshed and ready to carry on.
Thank you for the music.
