Just a few quick points to add to Ron and Tim's description of a very special evening...
--The other guitar player's name was Dave Yoke (sp?). He played a solo right after Derek and didn't suffer from the comparison, which means he must be pretty good. He was also one of the people playing foosball with Derek and Doyle, who have a bright career on the Pro Foosball Tour if they ever get tired of music 😉
--Mike called Paul's National Steel a "metal ukulele" and I thought that was pretty funny 🙂
--I had a good conversation with Doyle about the triple-slide attack on "Motherless Children" at the Clapton show. He said it felt like it was on the very edge of chaos every night, a lot of harmonics going on with three slides at once.
--Last but not least, Mike Mattison really has an incredible voice. Seeing him in a small room like that with such good acoustics, you could really hear every subtle nuance, every breath, and he was right on it all night. Paul Olsen also impressed me with his tasteful guitar and just-right backing vocals. I love the raw, rootsy sound of Scrapomatic!
