Been a while since posting, not sure where to start. A friend just lent me an awesome CD called 'The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus'. Never heard of it but it is unique. Was supposed to be a TV special taped on 12/11/68. And we know what a tough year '68 was although the Apollo Moon orbiting and this show helped. Brofan or Big Dave? In addition to Jethro Tull, The Who with Keith Moon, Marianne Faithful, Taj Mahal, John Lennon and Yoko, and The Rolling Stones (with Brian Jones) a band called The Dirty Mac stand out. This was John Lennon on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Eric Clapton on Lead Guitar, Keith Richards on Bass Guitar and Mitch Mitchell on Drums. They play a Lennon/McCartney song Yer Blues. Wow. Never posted on the Labor Day festival at Red Rocks so here goes briefly. First of all, a HUGE thank you to Smilin' Jack for putting me up and putting up with me... His Thursday night party was a great event attended by some good old friends and some new friends. Attending were Cowboy Neil (NO Fruitcup), Brofan, Bird72, Big Dave, Johnny and Jeanne, Jacquie representing the sweeties, of course Smilin' Jack, his lovely wife Phyllis, and my own sweetie Lenore. Met some very nice new people including Mike (Rydethewind - sp.) and his lovely wife Deb, Slammer, Ayla, and...sorry brain misfunction. Also Deb from Denver. The music was off the charts. Starting with a house call by Lefty Collins, then Devon Allman and Honeytribe at a little club with a guest shot by Derek Trucks. I really like this band. Devon is a real talent with a great personality. The bass player was just wicked in my ears. See them if you get a chance. Friday night despite the rain and cold was just a dream. Oteil and the Peacemakers set the bar higher. First time I heard them and they are good. Yonder Mountain String Band was good but I was cold and impatient waiting for the Brothers. And they did not dissapoint. What a show, the rain did not seem to bother them although it was odd seeing Gregg in that 'tent'. Walk on Guilded Splinters was a highlight for me. Suturday night brought it all home. Jackie Green and his band were excellent playing original music. Yonder Mountain String Band blew me away that night. It was the last night of four months on the road wrapping up in their hometown and the crowd just loved them. They were truly brought back for an encore and played a chills up the spine version of Dear Prudence. Gregg and Warren acoustic set was a real treat. You could see how much these two like and respect each other. What a set. And Gov't Mule put the whole weekend into perspective. Highlights for me were Bad Little Doggie, Thorazine Shuffle, Dear Mr. Fantasy and Cortez The Killer as the encore was all I coiuld ever ask for. Warren took it up 3 or 4 notches. Sorry to ramble on and sorry if I left anyone out... Big Mike
