Wow, kinda' got caught up in something I don't want to be in....I've caught it before personally for refusing to choose between friends here, but at least I'm consistent.
There are no bad guys here. The only reason for people to come here, be here is because they love the music of Duane Allman's band, and, for the most part, love others that were drawn to this music. That's the bottom line. That trumps everything. That said, do we have differences? Do we have issues that have the potential to divide us? Of course! We're a diverse bunch, and not mindless robots. Now, each of us has choices to make--do we want to focus on the things that divide us, or do we choose to focus on why we know each other in the first place? Personally, I choose the latter. That means I accept people that don't think like me politically--I give them freedom of thought. I accept people that choose to worship differently from me--I give them freedom of religion. Don't tell me how you make love, and I'll do the same--because I don't give a rat's ass unless you choose to make it a point. And I damn sure don't care what color God made you, or where you were born, or how much you are worth.
Now, if it offends you that I won't take offense, or won't take your "side" against someone here, just know that's what it's like....I make a rotten judge of other people, so I choose to leave that to a higher authority. I've screwed up way too much in the past by judging (almost always without knowing the whole story) or by cutting myself off from those who thought differently from me. You're supposed to learn from doing, and I've learned that diversity is good. I love the people here, I'm not going to take sides, in the end, the things that divide us are usually temporal, the love that unites us is for a lifetime. Enough on this, I hope I didn't burn bridges or offend.
Moving on, and the reason I dropped by in the first place....Mr. Tony Lumpkin just dropped by the office. He was the man that first made me really aware of Duane Allman. He had a band, The Bleus, that were pretty big on the frat circuit regionally in the late '60's. They got a recording contract, Eddie Hinton produced, Duane played on 3 of their records. Tony tells me the new book on that era, Heeey Baby Days, will be released this weekend, with an author's signing party at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon, the Crowne Plaza being headquarters for the entourege. So, just one more ingredient to the perfect storm of music and people converging on the quaint Southern town on the banks of the Okmulgee this weekend. If you check out the book, you might find a chapter written by someone you know :winky:
As mention before, I have a mandatory company meeting near Mobile this weekend, can't join the joy. But my heart will be in Macon again.
Y'all please care of each other, if for no other reason than out of respect for Duane and his legacy. Really, there are no bad guys here.
