Interesting exercise in musical appreciation tonight. I've been watching Sweet's list, and while there is a lot of variation, so much of every show is composed of songs the band first recorded better than 30 years ago. So I got to thinking, what would a setlist (or dare I say a live record) look like with songs I've got on IL's that have never been studio recordings for the band. I started with a list that included stuff from the Beacon from 2003, but decided to eliminate most of that because a lot of it was Mule stuff that Warren brought in that year. I only kept one of Warren's Otis Redding songs just for pacing. I eliminated the covers from the Layla record otherwise the set would be overloaded with Dominoes stuff. I also didn't include songs like Delta Blue, These Days, Death Letter, Preaching Blues from the 05 Beacon, just because I didn't have them in my inventory. If I'd had all that stuff the list really would have been scary. Wound up with a playlist that was 15 songs, 2.4 hours, 213.1 MB, and I might add a truly blistering set. Looked something like this; WDLBTBSS/Franklin's Tower-9/1/04 Gilded Splinters-8/21/04 Egypt-4/16/05 Who's Been Talkin 10/10/04 The Weight-6/25/06 Anyday-4/14/06 Into the Mystic-4/14/06 The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down-9/1/04 Dreams to Remember-6/25/06 A Change Is Gonna Come-3/21/03 Good Morning Little Schoolgirl-9/1/04 The Sky Is Crying-10/10/04 Mt. Jam>Afro Blue-8/24/04 Layla-9/25/04 OK, Mountain Jam has been around since the beginning, but I couldn't seperate it from Afro Blue. Frankly if I got that set one night I wouldn't care if I didn't hear any of the classics. It would be scary good. Just a thought about how deep the live catalog is. It makes me realize how incredibly fortunate we are to be fans of this band
