Disappointing to hear the mostly tepid (or worse) reviews of Raleigh. That said, I couldn't agree more. The only thing that really blew my socks off was the most wicked version of "Every Hungry Woman" I've ever heard. Every other song, it seemed, was nothing but framework for long, boring solos. I'm a Derek fan and don't really care for Warren's lead playing (except when it's Mule stuff; go figure), but Derek was just as guilty of going on and on and on. Both guys' solos would have been twice as good if they'd been half as long.
There are about two dozen folks from the town of 600 in which I live that always go to Alltel to see the ABB. Every single person I talked to today said they enjoyed Oteil & the Peacemakers and Derek Trucks Band sets far, far more than they did the ABB, and felt that way even after enduring the stifling heat out on the lawn. That's great news for those bands and what they're offering the fans - and not-so-good news for the main attraction.
