Musician Freddy Fender Diagnosed with Cancer CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) -- Recording artist Freddy Fender says he has incurable cancer, discovered after tumors were found in his lungs. His wife says they're ``hoping for a miracle.'' In an interview with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Fender says he feels ``very comfortable'' in his life. Noting that he's a year away from age 70, Fender says he's had ``a good run.'' He goes on to say, ``I cannot complain that I haven't lived long enough, but I'd like to live longer.'' Fender started his career in the late 1950s and hit the charts with ``Before The Next Teardrop Falls,'' ``Wasted Days and Wasted Nights'' and ``You'll Lose A Good Thing.'' He's won three Grammy Awards, the most recent in 2002.
